At the moment I am in my first year of the apprenticeship which means I am full time at college learning new skills such as welding and maintenance activities to prepare us for when we work in the departments around the airport in our second year.
Yes this apprenticeship is about learning whilst working this means that while we are in college we are learning lots of new skills to prepare us for our second year.
I very much enjoy the apprenticeship as everyday is very different as we are continuing to learn new engineering systems constantly and how to maintain the equipment
The apprenticeship is very structured we have a company email which we are able to talk to our manager and the company is able to communicate over changes to us. We even every couple of weeks arrange to talk to our manager through phone
We receive lots of support from the company like I mentioned before we have email which we are able to receive updates from the company and it has really helped having emails sent across
From the start of my apprenticeship I have been able to talk to the other apprentices for help on college work which has really helped at times to understand what we do at the company and also talk about it in the work
Being in college has been really helpful because it has given me a better understanding of engineering as what we are learning is very technical it also helps me to see what I need to improve on or see what my potential is
Every year the apprentices go to outward bound, I have herd many fun stories about the activities and can’t wait to go in 2022 with the company
Yes
This apprenticeship has really opened my eyes to the working world and it is a great company to put across to others who don’t want to go to university. There so much flexibility and many departments we will be working in and I can’t wait to go round all of them and experience engineering in the real world.
Be yourself and also show your passion towards engineering is the biggest tip I can give, show yourself off and tell the company why you are in engineering and that you are invested in working for the company.
