My apprenticeship involves a mix between being on site gaining knowledge of every day work while also completing college work and achieving good qualifications there. Another major part of the apprenticeship is the excellent training provided at the training centre in Eakring which provides fantastic hands on training and puts you through all the courses needed to complete the apprenticeship and become fully qualified. Once i complete my apprenticeship my day to day job will require me to maintain and fix pipelines while monitoring the gas transmission through the country ensuring everyone in the country is provided with gas.
I have learned many skills while going through my apprenticeship and i have only been here for 3 months. The company ensure you are safe at work and provide fantastic courses which will help in every day life such as first aid courses and fire safety courses. Other skills are the hand on skills which you learn how to use lots of different equipment and machines.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme and is the perfect apprenticeship for me. The training provided is fantastic and allows me to achieve fantastic qualifications through it while also providing me with life skills. Everyone within the company are fantastic and are all happy to help with any questions and are really helpful ensuring you gain the qualifications needed to become a full time qualified engineer.
The programme is very well structured and provides a good range and balance between being on site, being at college and being at the training centre. The programme gives you an advanced schedule of what you will be doing at what time although on the odd occasion springs a course only a few weeks in advance but this very rarely happen.
Everyone within the company, if it's my line manager, site manger, training manager or any of my colleagues, they are all very supportive and just want you to succeed. They are always ensuring you are happy about everything and there are plenty of courses and people to talk to if you are struggling such as mental health coordinaters etc.
When working towards my qualifications i receive lots of support from college lectures ensuring the qualifications are met and also my training programme manager which they are always ensuring i am okay and asking if there are any ways to improve the training or any way to make it easier for me.
I feel that the training provided is excellent which helps me lots when i go onto site. Through them always asking ways in which the training could improve to help me in my role this in its own way gives me confidence to perform better as they are always open to feedback.
Yes there are trade unions within the company which everyone are encouraged to join. There are 4 which each stand for different meanings and have different morales and there are lots of open days to find out what each stand for so you can choose the right one for you. Although there is no sporting teams i wish there was.
Yes
As it provides fantastic training and is a company that gains you excellent qualifications and sets you up for life. For an apprenticeship the wage you get is very very good and while travelling down to the training centre in Eakring everything is provided and paid for you. I would thoroughly recommend this company for an apprenticeship as trust me you will not regret it and will enjoy yourself throughout.
Get your applications in quick as there will be a lot off applications. Be yourself and do not worry about interviews as they are very chilled out and the company just want to know a bit more about you. And finally if you are lucky enough to get offered an apprenticeship at national grid grab it with both hands as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot turn down.
