My role on site is to manage engineering and construction activities with regards for program, cost, and health and safety. I am currently responsible for delivering a 10 storey reinforced concrete frame building, consisting of 54 apartments and commercial space as part of a £180 million residential development in East London.
I am constantly developing new skills as part of my role, there are learning opportunities that present themselves on a daily basis. A key skill to learn is building relationships and people management as this is a large part of the job, another key skill is problem solving. These are both in continual development.
I very much enjoy the apprenticeship programme as it offers great opportunities i would otherwise not have. You are able to have good relationships with senior members of the business, and are offered opportunities to learn in areas you are interested in, not only what they company wants you to do.
The programme I am a part of is very well structured and organised. There is a good support system in place as well as lots of training and activities outside of your daily role. The team that heads up the programme are easily accessible and happy to discuss any ideas or suggestions you may have.
Support from my employer is always available when needed. They are happy to help where they can and are always thinking of new ways to help develop your learning. My Line Manager is also very supportive and gives me opportunities to excel in my daily role when working on site.
My employer is good at supporting my training qualification and giving me the help i need to complete it to a good standard. They are able to give me access to specialists within the business to help with the harder work, and give me time to catch up when i am busy both at work and University.
My qualification helps to teach me the theoretical side of my job and gives me a good foundation for carrying out my role. It gives me the knowledge to back my thinking on site and my work allows me to build on what i learn on a daily basis at work.
There are lots of extra curricular activities to get involved in should you wish, with opportunities for social events and networking with other members of the business. They also offer great opportunities to volunteer within the local community and help out of projects for charities, or those who are in need of help.
Yes
Mace Group are a brilliant company to work and offer great opportunities to build and develop your skills in whichever area you are interested in. They genuinely care & value you as a person not just as another employee. The senior leadership team are heavily involved in the apprenticeship scheme and as such you are offered opportunities many others will not be.
Mace look for people with a genuine passion, drive, and a willingness to learn. If you put in the effort and do your research it will pay off at the interview stage. They are not looking for people who know it all already, but want someone who is going to make every effort to be the best person they can be.
