on a day to day basis, i turn up to work on whatever section im working on. i get a plan of what needs to be completed for the day. any job cards which are needed for college are completed if possible at work. most of the time you learn skills which you havent done before
I have learnt a fair few skills in my time at Babcock DSG so far. most knowledge is on tracked vehicles but not so much on wheel based heavy vehicles. quite a few skills are personal skills such as time keeping and management not only on a vehicle but as a team
the apprenticeship has its ups and downs. not every job or workplace is perfect. some days can be very enjoyable and make you not want to finish for the day whereas other days are not educational or enjoyable but that goes for every job. overall its very enjoyable when you gain new skills
due to covid-19 a lot of our structure has become hectic. weve missed vital time at college which has caused us to fall behind. due to the time missed we have a lot of stress trying to gain back the time. however, before covid-19 the structure was fairly well organised
our employers try and help with whatever they can. we needed a good, reliable source of information for revision to help us with our college so we spoke to our employer who purchased a very good revision aid on the computer which gives us the information we need for college
our college couldnt be more helpful. when we have issues they are quick to resolve them and help teach us to our individual needs such as those that prefer to do practice tests or those that prefer the practical side of our education. they help to get us to the stage we need to be at to pass our exams
i dont feel that our qualification helps us to perform better in our roles
unfortunately due to covid there are no extra-curricular events or activities to join in with. beforehand there use to be clay pigeon that the staff use to do of a weekend outside of work when the weather was nice. quite a few workers play 6 a side football of an evening together also
Yes
babcock can be an amazing opportunity if its the right apprenticeship for you. its not any ordinary mechanical apprenticeship so it is a great opportunity. most of the staff are very good with apprentices and help teach them as much as possible and give you interesting tasks in which you will learn new skills
be yourself. there are many different people and many different interests at work. not everyone is the same and you will come across many interesting people with some cracking stories to tell. the good thing about working here is that most people are very friendly and you can get along with so many people
