I'm involved in creating new equipment and workspaces to bring in new products into the factory, and generate growth. As well as improving existing processes and procedures so the site can increase productivity and become more LEAN. I am also required to support with the day-to-day maintenance and support of production.
Through the first stages of my Apprenticeship, the growth in my knowledge, skills and confidence to do well is outstanding. Being encouraged to take on responsibilities at work and liaise with other departments has improved my confidence, so that now I can lead projects, participate in high-level meetings, perform presentations and enthusiastically welcome visitors.
For me a Degree Apprenticeship pathway was the right choice, as it combines academic development, with real on the job skills, knowledge and implementation, working with industry leaders and professionals, learning a broad range of real skills at Siemens. I want every young person to get this opportunity and thus, am an advocate for apprenticeship programmes.
When an Apprenticeship opened up at Siemens, I was first hesitant about attending as I really lacked confidence and worried I wouldn't be supported within the program. However, from day one (and in interview stages), I knew it was the right pathway for me and I would be massively supported and encouraged to show my passion, potential and willingness to learn. Throughout the past 18 months, I've learned to balance studies whilst developing work skills and wouldn't have managed without the role being so well organised and structured!
Siemens have constantly and consistently encouraged me (and others on the scheme) to shout up and ask as many questions as possible to support my work, my studies and my future aspirations. They massively support my development and ensure, every day, I am given the opportunity to explore exciting, motivating and inspiring projects
On my Apprenticeship, I started three qualifications (HNC/NVQ/PEO). It was the level 2 electrical installation, which forms part of the initial degree framework, which terrified me, as I had never really used tools before. The expert industry knowledge from tutors and help from peers, quickly helped me understand the right tools for each task. I carried out numerous practice circuits before completing the required work - and I managed to finish three months early (and first in my class).
Particularly through carrying out my HNC and HND at NSCG, I have learned vital engineering knowledge, including both electrical and mechanical principals that I frequently apply when carrying out/participating in projects. Having the base knowledge and skills whilst being supported in a dedicated learning environment has meant I can develop even further.
There are a variety of different extra curricular activities and social teams. Within Congleton we have a dedicated 'sports and social' team that organise trips/outings with different colleagues. I was also a part of a work netball team and despite the COVID pandemic, still participate in our site wide 'coffee roulette'
Yes
Throughout my Apprenticeship with Siemens, I have been encouraged to always have integrity, self-worth and try and strive for the best that I can, whenever I can, in my work, my studies and my future aspirations. Since joining, I recognise how much further my skills develop when training alongside work colleagues and I am always encouraged to further develop
Do it!!! Even if it seems daunting to apply to such a huge, highly regarded company with such extensive recognition, the family-feel and constant support of colleagues and management completed contradicts any initial thoughts. As well as this, you won't find a better place to carry out training and development!
