Cyber Intelligence Analyst Review

While I cannot disclose the full details of my role, I can say that I am given plenty to do and a multitude of opportunities for personal growth. My team ensures that I am aware of all ongoing work and that I can get involved in other projects where suitable.

On the job I have learnt and developed plenty of skills, including, but not limited to; programming in several different programming languages, presentation skills, communication skills, and collaboration. I have also been able to learn about the different areas within the industry, and work with stakeholders from other teams to better understand the bigger picture.

I very much enjoy the work side of the programme, with an abundance of support from the workplace from human resources as well as my immediate team. I am not as big of a fan of the university side of things however, but this can be put down to the type of learner that I am.

The programme is exceptionally well organised, with human resources being available all the time for any questions or issues I may have. I cannot fault the human resources team for their tireless effort to ensure our wellbeing and success. The university's organisation does not live up to the same standard however.

I receive a fantastic amount of support from my employer, both from human resources and my immediate team. As well as this, I have built a strong network within the organisation who are all extremely helpful when it comes to wellbeing and development. The organisation also puts a strong emphasis on wellbeing which is a bonus.

While I am grateful that my degree is being paid for by my employer, the university does not have a standard of support that I would call satisfactory unfortunately. I often receive no reply to emails requesting support on pieces of work, which is frustrating considering I am only studying part time and have little time to complete the work given that I have a full time job too.

Unfortunately I do not believe that my qualification helps me perform my role. Most of the learning and development that I have completed has been on the job rather than with the university, which is teaching what seems to be outdated content with regards to the topics such as cyber security.

There are lots of extra-curricular activities that I have the opportunity to get involved in at work, from sports clubs, to professional development events, to networking events. Given the current circumstances with the global pandemic, these have obviously been put on hold, but I anticipate that they will restart once we are back in the workplace.

Barclays is a fantastic place to work, especially for people starting out their careers, with lots of opportunities to develop technical and personal skills. There is also a multitude of extra benefits of working for such a large company, such as the extra staff benefits and share schemes that all can benefit from

My main advice would be to be yourself and not pretend to be who you think they want for the role, it will only come back to bite you if you get the role and they realise that you're nothing like what you were in the interviews. Good Luck!
