  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in the Co-op is Team Leader. I am responsible for day to day running of the store and making sure my staff is motivated and provides excellent customer service to our customers. I am also responsible for keeping the store legal and following procedures and policies and ensuring our team will meet company set KPI

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In the last year since I started my apprenticeship I developed quite a few skills and behaviours. I believe I have became better leader and more successful communicator. I also learned a lot more about leadership in general and how to lead successful team. I think its a big progress since I started my learning.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy meeting new people (during conferences) and working together in groups. In general programme is quite challenging and fast pace, especially working full time alongside it, but it is also very rewarding and helps me improve at my job, which makes me quite proud to be honest. I do enjoy the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is not flawless, there is quite a few organisational issues, like some of the documents not opening for me, I have been missed in few communications and I been misled on the beginning as to my English exams. But apart from that I had no other issues. Tutors are great at organising everything and supporting me, organisation as a whole not so much if I was to be 100% honest.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I only have been emailed few times by my company, it was about Christmas break, filling in this survey. They don't really check how I am doing. It is mostly [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] my tutor who is following up with me. Another very helpful person is my previous manager Emma Williams, she helping me a lot with my learning and supporting me a lot.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Steve, my tutor is always very helpful and supportive. Never heard from anyone else from the training provider, just Steve and Aaron who normally send invitations for conferences. To be honest I don't think I need any other support than just some feedback or advice from my tutor, however it would be nice someone checking on my progress.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I developed my knowledge, skills ans behaviours a lot lately. Some of it is due to my learning, but also due to my hard work on my resilience and mental well being. I am trying to improve in everything I do and it was always the case. Learning helped me to understand few business terms and how things work, but rest is thanks to my tutor, my manager and myself.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not much is currently happening due to some changes in company and obviously due to the Covid-19, so can't really comment much on that. I did signed up for Leadfest activities run by company, which are e-learning to help with leadership, newsletters, blogs. I visit the portal from time to time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I prefer not to say too much. I would recommend co-op as a place to shop, definitely, as I believe it is very good retailer with some very good values. as an employer I wish to see some more support for staff and would love to have equal chances for progression.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • My own experience with the Co-op - if you want to progress don't count on what you know or who you know. Leave, apply as external candidate and you will get the promotion you deserve, that's what I had to do to become Team Manager in the past. My hard work as Team Leader wasn't noticed or recognised, so I have left the company and after months I applied for Team Manager role and got it straight away.
