I am a Business Admin Apprentice and I do three rotations around different teams in the department to gain more experience. I started in Accounts Payable where I was paying suppliers by matching invoices and dealing with queries. I am currently in Accounts Receivable where I raise invoices for suppliers and again deal with any queries customers may have. After I have finished my rotation in Accounts Receivable I will move onto the Sub Contract team.
I started my apprenticeship having no experience within Finance. The company is putting me through my Level 3 AAT and the teams I have worked on have supported me everyday by training me do be able to fulfil the job role. I have learnt how to use systems and match invoices, how to reply to supplier/customer emails and I have learnt a lot of softer skills such as developing my communication skills, developing my confidence and so on.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. From leaving sixth form and not really knowing what I wanted to do I now know that working within accounting services is what I was to do for potentially the rest of my life. It's something I have gained so much interest in and something I wish to continue developing my knowledge on.
I would say that my programme is extremely organised and well structured. From starting I knew the plan for my apprenticeship. From which team I would be on, which teams I would move to. Also, in each individual team my plan around the training I would complete, my objectives I would work towards and my day to day tasks.
I receive a lot of support from my employer from being allowed the days off to go to attend my study course, being allowed time in my day to complete any tasks I need to do. I also receive a lot of support from my employer around getting the appropriate training to fulfil my job role.
I get so much support when it comes down to my qualification. I am allowed the days off to attend my college course. I am allowed to take time out of my day to do any tasks I need to complete but I also get the support of any help needed if I'm stuck with content or the help for updating my portfolio.
I feel from being able to study my Level 3 AAT it has allowed me to perform better in my day to day duties and I have a wider and more detailed idea of what goes on in the background from the basics of Accounting down to more detailed knowledge that I may need.
Unfortunately, due to COVID there hasn't really been many opportunites to get involved in extra-curricular activities. However, there are plenty of times where the team have organised quizzes after work to bond with each other. I am also involved in a social value volunteering project which allows me to connect with so many different people all over the business.

Balfour Beatty is the best company I have worked for. From the amazing opportunities provided with my qualifications being funded down to everyone I have met/worked with being super friendly and always being so helpful and allowing me feel apart of the team and not someone who had no previous knowledge. I love my job and would highly recommend Balfour Beatty to anyone.
Never be afraid to apply for something even if you have no knowledge. I applied for my apprenticeship without having any background qualifications etc but that didn't matter. I was given a fair chance and have been welcomed so well. The application process it so easy to follow and it is an opportunity you don't want to miss.
