I am a Project Quality Engineer working full time at a Major Infrastructure Construction Project in the North West of England. My role involves Inspecting, Testing and Proving that the services we deliver are fit for purpose and that adequate records are correctly produced and securely stored that will document those works to a contractually agreed level of assurance. Day to Day I start work at 06:30am and conduct a series of walk around site checks, having satisfied myself that all is in good order I will record any necessary findings and commence planning any testing I am scheduled to undertake, insuring that all works are planned in line with relevant safety practices. I then attend the relevant items to be tested, work to any relevant procedure and insure that no defects are present. Having finished testing and made site notes I then return to my desk and complete any necessary reports then send them to relevant personnel. I attend meetings as a key stake holder to insure that items manufactured for our project are being built to the agreed standards and insure that our suppliers know what is expected of them. Some times I produce briefs and reports documenting experience we as a project have gained which may be relevant in future to steer us in the right direction in terms of error prevention. If there are any serious concerns raised by our client as regards misconduct or the quality of works delivered then I will investigate such matters leaving no stone unturned and fully documenting all findings as per contractual protocol. I count myself thoroughly lucky to have been afforded the opportunities received during my time at Balfour Beatty CSUK in terms of the HNC, HND and NVQ4 in Engineering I have been funded for and the people I have been fortunate enough to work with and gain experience from.
I have learned a phenomenal amount during my time at Balfour Beatty, I joined with a BTEC Level 3 IT & Business. I now hold as many as 7 different trade skill cards, a higher national apprenticeship in Engineering and am a practitioner with CQI and a safe site works person.
Thoroughly! There is nothing more rewarding than self improvement and the recognition that I get from co-workers who have watched me develop during that program\apprenticeship.
Extremely well organized! I have been well informed and had frequent meetings to keep me abreast of what comes next at every phase of my apprenticeship. Balfour Beatty has a designated expert department for handling apprenticeships in the form of there Emerging Talent team which I can contact any time for help.
I have been supported adequately in every instance that I needed it. Both from central services and from my line manager at a project level. As an employee with 3 young children that meant a lot of support while completing a Higher National Apprenticeship.
Ample! Gen2 had an excellent bunch of staff delivering the academic side of the programme for my HNC & HND as well as a first rate team recording the site based experience I had to evidence. the College team directed my to the right resources & Site team assessed fairly.
I am well respected within my Industry because I now hold a Higher National Apprenticeship Certificate which is equivalent to a Foundation Degree. The lessons learned in gaining that qualification serve me daily when I implement my knowledge of Engineering Science: Analyzing Design, Assessing Forces at Work, Understanding Thermodynamics.
There are several and many, these include community engagement programmes such as STEM where I promote Science Technology and Engineering at local event usually to school leavers using my own story to try and inspire others.
Yes
Because my own experience has been brilliant, I see plenty of other people being given the same level of support in there development and whats more the people Balfours employ are first rate. The attitudes you encounter with them are all fair and decent.
Be honest, Do not feel like you have to miss-represent yourself. Balfour Beatty is a company where fair practice is the norm. I came to the firm as a Junior Administrator with no GCSE's and one Level 3 in IT. They made an Engineer out of me.
