  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I am undertaking lots of training courses to ensure that I am ready for my role at National Grid. I am also doing lots of research into the business to get a better understanding of who National Grid are as a company. All work I complete must be logged in my progress report or my online Journal.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is extremely well structured. We have a timetable that sees up to a year in advance. Although some events are being postponed due to COVID, it is made clear that these events will not be taking place and if/when they will be rescheduled. We also have full access to our Aston Uni timetable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive countless amounts of support from our employers. It is always made crystal clear to us that if we have any issues or questions to contact our New talent team or our line managers straight away. When I have done this in the past, I have received support within around 10 minutes of sending the message!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive lots of support from our training providers at Aston University. Although currently all of the lectures are delivered and then added to access online, we also currently have the option to attend extra maths revision sessions to get us up to speed on any topics we do not feel comfortable on. We have also been advised to email if we have any questions or issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe my qualification has drastically improved my performance for my role at National Grid. This is because we are learning all about the electricity industry and how it operates. We have also been learning a business course where we have to complete a 4000 word module. This has highlighted to me how crucial it is that I remain in a professional manner whilst undertaking my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently, due to COVID, we have not had the chance to partake in any social activities or sporting events. In the future I am sure the option will be presented to us. We do however, have the option to attend courses regarding managing mental wellbeing. I think it is excellent that National Grid have presented us with this option during this challenging time and i have been making full use of the sessions!

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would 100% recommend National Grid to a friend! Not only do they provide us with an excellent salary, but they also offer us countless amounts of support during our 2 year scheme. During my time so far at National Grid I believe I have been given a very warm welcome by all of my new colleagues and everyone has been more than happy to give me a helping hand!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • I would tell anyone applying to National Grid to just be themselves! During the interview they must ensure that they remain in a calm and professional manner and it is always a good idea to dress to impress. Also ensure that everything you say you do so with confidence and make it clear that you will go the extra mile for success.
