On a day to day basis, I am involved in different placements that change on a quarterly basis. Currently I am based in the QSP (Quality Specialist) department, I am involved in daily performance meetings, quality improvement activities, outer surface assessment and buy off and commissioning of new MINI models. This makes the role very exciting as it is always changing and it is very dynamic on a day to day basis.
During the apprenticeship, I have developed several significant skills which will aid my future career and development as a character. I believe I have a basic knowledge of engineering principles and skills. My practical ability has significantly developed in units such as milling, turning, and engineering drawing. Throughout the degree I have developed academic skills that will assist with the corporate nature of future jobs within BMW Group.
I have enjoyed the programme to great extent. It has given me huge opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge from very reputable lecturers. I have especially enjoyed the time I have been given the opportunity to network and build inter-departmental relationships with work colleagues. in addition, I have appreciated the continued support from my apprentice manager.
The programme is very well organized and structured. The course is well laid out to us at the start of year. All of modules/units are given sufficient time to be completed effectively. The holidays I have taken in the 3 years coincide with the college/university terms. Study time is also allocated for additional work when needed.
I receive extensive support from my apprentice manager. I am given any guidance I require if I have an issue personally or with college work. BMW offers 24/7 wellbeing support and any workplace incidents are treated seriously and with care. Alongside the employer, the training school offers sufficient support on demand.
When working towards my qualifications, the training providers offers continued support academically. Such as additional Maths and electronics one to one lessons. This is very helpful when working towards exams and assessments. There are several exams over the four years and there are many assessments that all count towards final grading.
I feel that my qualifications from my training provider will help me perform better in several ways. It will give me skills such as engineering drawing and analysis to forward my ability with technical job roles around the company. Quality and material analysis skills will be beneficial going forward into further placements Also, during my course, I have developed a better work ethic which will aid me in completing my apprenticeship.
There are extra activities to get involved. These are activities such as the Skern Lodge trip. This was where all the new apprentices went away for 4 days to Devon. This trip included team building activities and adventure courses. Other extra activities included the mountain challenge orienteering event. This is a great opportunity. Charity activities are usually organised throughout the year and they are optional to get involved in.
Yes
I would recommend BMW to anyone since BMW gives all its employee’s countless opportunities to gain extra qualifications. Alongside all of this it has a genuine family feel to it and the management has a serious care for all its employees. There is lots of opportunities to choose different career pathways and you’re never limited in where you can go in the business. Also, you are eligible for a car scheme after 24 hours!
When applying for BMW, be sure to research the company and know its history very well. Also, it is good to consider if you have a genuine passion for the apprenticeship you are applying for, as this is essential to show during the interview process. Be under no illusion, the process will be tough, but it will be worth it in the future if you succeed.
