My role consists of looking at an allocated job pack and trying to build and maintain networks that need updating, or attempting to break through and blockages or snaggs to try and prevent civils to try and reduce a cost to the company, i work within the chief engineers department
I have learnt many skills while in training, i have learn how to cable underground manually using my hands but also using select machinery for use on larger projects. i have learnt health and safety to ensure i have the correct ppe and i am using the machines correctly to remain safe
i am really enjoying the experience, i am 34 years old i am learning a completely new job role, i used to work inside so working outside all year round in all weathers is challenging but also very rewarding, i am proud to work for openreach and to provide a service to customers
it is well organised, i have at times struggled to pick up new things however i have found the whole process easy, everyone i speak to in openreach are happy to help and are willing to lend a hand when needed, my mentor is brilliant and makes the job fun
i have a lot of support from my direct line manager and from my SOM, there phones are always on and i feel they would answer my questions fairly and correctly even if it was hard for them to answer, i also have alot of support from within my team and i enjoy helping others out
i receive alot of support from dai rogers my assessor, he is always at the end of the phone and always willing to help in any way he can, due to covid i know the training has been different but dai has made sure everyone feels part of the team
I had no clue of the the job before training so the training helps massively, i also feel that if the training wasn't up to scratch i would be tempted to maybe cut corners or not do the jobs correctly due to not knowing what to do but i feel safe knowing i can complete the tasks correctly
This has been hard due to covid however i know once things start getting back to normal we are planning on doing a few things as a team bonding exercise, we send time everyday making sure everyone is ok to complete the jobs for the day and if not we can support them
Yes
i think openreach/bt look after there workers well, i feel that i am a valued member of a team and the management make the effort to speak to us and let us know we are supported, i wish i had joined the company sooner and i plan on staying in this job until my retirement
i would say give it your all as once you are in working you will love every minute you have your bad days in the rain however the team around you are all in the same boat and we all make the effort to have a laugh even when we are soaked
