  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within Marstons is Supervisor. My day to day role includes managing shifts and the team around me, looking after customers during their visits, greeting, taking orders, delivering food, etc. I am also responsible for the cash handling, reconciliation of tills at end of the day, dray deliveries and maintaining company standards.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When starting my apprenticeship, I was a team member, so this apprenticeship has allowed to gain my promotion within the company. I have also developed my knowledge on hospitality specialist areas, such as food and drink pairings, management and leadership. I feel that the apprenticeship has allowed to develop myself as a whole as well as developing my skills further within hospitality.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My regional trainer is awesome, and I can not give him enough credit :). I enjoy every one of my sessions with him, they are informative, motivational and engaging. My trainer helps me to keep on track and gives all the necessary support and more when required. I enjoy all my sessions and studying with life time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that over all the apprenticeship is well structured and penned out for how we have to carry out our learning. If I had to give one bit of constructive feed back on the structure of the learning it would be that sometimes the order of our personal studying doesn't match up with the order of our webinars and skills days.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer and general manager are both really supportive of me and the apprenticeship schedule. She makes time to catch up with me after my sessions, ensures I have the time to attend my sessions, webinars and skills days. She supports and assists with any extra training and studying time I may need ?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe that I receive the highest amount of support I could possibly receive from my region trainer and life time as a company. My trainer helps me to achieve all my criteria and grades with my qualification that is required of me. My trainer goes above and beyond when supporting me, working around my work schedule and business needs.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the my qualification has greatly helped me to perform in my role at work. I started this qualification that a ten member and through this I have been able to progress on to supervisor role and I'm still developing and progressing further within this role to allow me to reach assistant manager.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We regularly have team meetings and catchup outside of the job, as well as opportunities to help at another site. We also have lots of external training that is offered to us as part of our development paths, which allow us to travel to head office or the training center to complete these, allowing us to meet new people and colleagues.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend marstons to anyone that wants to be part of a close knit family and guest focused company. Marstons have a great career path for all their employees as well as great company benefits and flexibility around your work patterns and development. Marstons is a brilliant company to be apart off.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marston's?
  • You need to Guest obsessed and want the achieve the best out of your opportunities. You have to have be happy to be part of a big family company. Be friendly, polite, always smiling with your customers. Be yourself, we all have something quirky about us and that's what makes your team unique.
