My current role is working in the fibre cities team, where I have built the ODF and ran hydras to it from the Head end, I have also built spines around the Liverpool area and the Wirral area, also I have been on fault findings and completing them, the hydras from the head end are spliced to the ODF and ran to the cable chamber via internal cables then I have built the cable joints also.
I have learnt a lot of new skills through this apprenticeship like using a range of different tools that I never thought I would also being more patient and my time management skills have improved, I feel very confident with the work I am doing and will always have a go of anything to try and get the hang of it.
The apprenticeship programme is great as it help you evolve in a business where you can thrive and be the best you can, there has always been help for me whenever I need it and the guys running it are great couldn’t praise them enough for the help, I feel with it being a hands on apprenticeship you learn more as it’s more work in the field than reading books.
The apprenticeship programme is well organised and easy to follow, the whole set up is a breeze as the items are labelled specifically and you are able to complete them with time to spare, it is structured well also and the days that we have with our apprenticeship team are well space out to give you enough time to complete the documents.
I receive a lot of support from the employer, there are a range of benefits available to me that I can use also any help needed there are programmes in place for this, there is a vast amount of new and existing training that I can do and will be looking into in the future months.
I receive a lot of help and whenever I need it I will ask and won’t have to wait long for a reply or call on how to progress with it, most of the items are self explanatory but there are a couple where you need a little guidance on how to complete properly.
If I’m honest I don’t think the apprenticeship has anything to do with my daily job role as it is 2 completely different sectors but it has helped in regards to writing correct emails or word documents, but I feel I have learnt far more from my buddy regarding spreadsheets and things.
I am unsure on this, I know there is the workplace page willing has a lot of different information on and people are always sending links to YouTube or Twitter and things, but I have never really looked any further than that, I would be willing to join in with these if one was available to me.
Yes
It is a great place to work and there are a range of benefits available to everyone, there is always help for you, you can go as far as you want if you work hard and keep your head down, there is always someone to help you if you need it.
My advice would be to just keep your head down learn as much as you can in the first 12 months, do as much of your apprenticeship work as possible in the quickest time then you can concentrate on actually learning your role, always ask if you need help there are loads of avenues you can go down and there is always someone to help either via emails, texts and calls.
