I work in the core assuarnce department which generally invloves performing stautory audits of company. I get to learn about a vast range of different industries and meet new clients regularly. When I intially started I was on some of the more simple areas of testing such as over cash and PPE. But now less than 2 years in I have been exposed to nearly the whole file and been incharging some jobs. There is a good mix of working locally but also working away and going to client sites around the country/world. You get to meet a large amount of new people internally also, within your departments and also other lines of services and also have the PwC network to support you.
I have currently already completed 12 out of 15 professional exams and I am only 22, with my last 3 to go in November after which I will be exam qualified to be a chartered accountant by the age of 22, and time qualified by the age of 23. We also undergo a number of internal training programmes as part of PwC which allow us to round our skills as we progress within PwC. I have also learnt to grow in confidence and I am able to communicate with senior people at ease and confident travelling around the country and organising events which before the job/programme I wasn't.
I enjoy the wide variety of clients that you get to work on and learnt about a lot of different industries. This keeps the job refreshing and rewarding. The people that you also meet on a day-to-day basis are all interesting and working at PwC I really know that I have a strong support network and confident that I have made some strong acquiantances.
I personally feel very valued by the managers and incharges that I have worked for and there are recognition rewards which are awarded in recognition of hardwork. I am able to be exposed in a number of different engagements which keeps providing different opportunities. However, as part of project accelearte work loads at time can be difficult.
I think the programme is well organised and the placements work well with the structure of the exams that you sit at university. There is a lot of support from both the university tutors and people managers within PwC/.
I know that I would be able to communicate both my people manager at PwC, the early development team who works between PwC and the university tutor at any point and therefore feel extremely supported.
general attitudes are very good and everyone is willing to support and help each other. People manager is extremely apporachable and would be able to go to them about anything.
The salary is very good and allows all of my costs to be met, however when join full time other companies such as KPMG do provide better remuneration.
If you have time after work (which at times is difficult) PwC have sports teams that can get involved in and there are also a lot of Business development/network opportunities provided. Furthermore get rewarded with debreifs for large jobs where you would go and engage in various orgamised activities.
Yes
Get people, lots of different clients and sites which keeps the work diverse and interesting, valuable investment in exams/knowledge/personal skills, opens up further opportunity for secondments etc.
be yourself and dont be intimidated - a large part abot the job is people skills rather than if you are the best technically and therefore as long as you can creat a strong professional relationship people will be willing to respond and take the time as you are learning.
