As an apprentice site manager my main role is to ensure the health and safety of all operatives on site, planning for future activities on site and planning the logistics of deliveries and activities on site. This also included having deadlines and having good time management to ensure the project is running smoothly and to plan.
During my apprenticeship my company encouraged me to complete as much training as possible and to be constantly observing and asking questions. This has helped me to develop my communication skills, time management and practical skills.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship, John Sisk and Son have helped me every step of the way and always encouraged me to push myself. I would highly recommend an apprenticeship with John Sisk.
The structure of the apprenticeship is well thought out and is a good way to introduce people into the industry.
My employer supported me fully throughout my apprenticeship, whether this be on site, in the office or with my apprenticeship coordinator. I knew I could always ask for assistance and always be pointed in the right direction.
Prior to covid I attended college once a month for a week, I thoroughly enjoyed this, the teaching was thorough and detailed. However, due to covid this learning was moved online and due to this the support was not as easily available as and when we needed it.
The experience and information given by the college has helped me on a daily basis when carrying out my roles, they have helped me understand the laws, rules and regulations as well as specific details on how structures are built and maintained.
During my time with Sisk I have attended multiple events particular Women in Construction and assisted with college open days and school talks. During covid the company put together zoom quiz's and various different activities.
Yes
My experience with the company has far exceeded expectations. I started Sisk with no experience in construction and have expanded my knowledge greatly during the past two years. The company have supported me with all my training and learning as well as my struggles.
I would advise others to be themselves and know that this apprenticeship is open to people from all backgrounds and experiences. I would also say never stop asking questions and ask if you need help. Take your time with your learning and be positive you fully understand the work.
