My role is to develop and design different aspects of our product, this involves following it through from the initial design to final design and manufacture. Another is to provide quality and safety to the program to ensure the product is of the highest standards for customers in its final form
Many skills were gained throughout the apprenticeship and my current role. one main skill that I have developed and learnt more in depth is team work, team work plays a huge part in my role, as well as every other employee at BAE Systems. Another skill would be communication, this is also key in order to perform at the highest levels.
I enjoyed my program, I gained many skills, knowledge and friendships along the way. BAE Systems provided me with one of the best apprenticeship programs in the country, they made sure I gained all necessary skills, knowledge and competency to perform well in my final role after the apprenticeship. Many opportunities came from my apprenticeship, Outward bound and allowing me to gain a Degree in Engineering
the organization of the apprenticeship programme at BAE Systems is set out well and is easy to acknowledge. all steps to the apprenticeship are set out from the very start, including dates, milestones and key figures ( Such as line managers and skills coaches ). At BAE Systems the ' Early Careers ' functions make sure they always provide, knowledge, assistance, advice and information.
We receive as much support as possible here at BAE Systems, Any queries that are raised are always answered too and information sort after dependent on the query, not only do they support you with work related questions etc, they also support you with non-work related issues, whether it be medical issues, mental health, financial difficulties all the way to transportation. The amount of support is endless
During my Apprenticeship I gained my qualifications from ' Furness College ' and ' EAL ', EAL provided the inhouse learning and qualifications such as the NVQ and EPA, Furness College provided the NC and HNC qualifications. the Support from both was OK, as an apprentice we have no contact with EAL however our ' Line Managers ' do. Furness College was again OK, they provided support where needed, but not to the highest standard they could, however they do keep you up to date with progress and any doubts/worries they may have with your work
My Qualifications provided by Furness College have helped me develop my engineering knowledge, this helps me have more awareness in my work for things like, stresses in materials etc in my day to day role. NVQ provided by EAL helped me with my knowledge regarding safety and quality in the work place. overall i think both qualifications have helped me in my role
' Outward Bound ' was the fist extra curricular activity I attended, this helped boost good relationships among my colleagues and teamworking skills. They also do an annual fundraiser for varies charities in the form of a run, either the ' Keswick to Barrow ' or the ' Coniston to Barrow ' they sponsor these events heavily and encourage people to get involved. They also sponsor a ' Beach Clean ' where they promote a local beach clean to employees in which you are again encouraged to participate. They also compete in many competitions
Yes
The Apprenticeships here at BAE Systems are very varied which provide many opportunities, the possibilities to learn and develop here are endless, including payed for qualifications such as degrees and masters. All apprentices are looked after and made competent for their final role, In my experience BAE has been a main employer for most of my friends and family in the area and from them i have never heard a bad word about their apprenticeships or time here at BAE.
Do prior research on the company, such as what it does, what they've done/achieved and history of the company and also more in depth research about the specific role you are applying for, the Interviewers are always looking for that prior knowledge and it may be the difference between you and the next person.
