My role is to learn how to use CAD systems and collaborate with team members in order for output drawings to be produced. on a day to day basis this involves working with more experienced and qualified designers and watching what they do as well as complete the tasks they give me in order to learn for myself.
I have developed greatly in team working skills as every job that I do involves working with colleagues and dividing the work between us equally. I have also learnt new skills in the forms of using software such as CAD and Microsoft Office programmes. furthermore I am getting better and working independently and not relying on other designers to complete work.
I think the programme is very enjoyable as the work is interesting and I am always kept busy. There is also a very big variety of work to do so most tasks seem like something new and refreshing. Other designers are also very friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcomed.
The programme is very well organised and we are given a timetable right at the start with how everything will be handled. This timetable shows us the plan for each year of our apprenticeship and helps us keep on track with the work we are doing. we are also given work by skills coaches with attached deadlines to work towards.
My employer is very supportive and I always feel as though I can find the help I need through many different people. They make you feel welcomed and are always ready to answer and questions or concerns that you may have about your apprenticeship. Overall I never feel too worried about problems as they are often fixed hastily.
I have lots of communication and regular check-ups about how I am dealing with and finding my qualification work and whenever there is an issue highlighted they try their best to fix it. It has been tough this year due to COVID and online lessons however they are making their best effort to deliver us the lesson content we need.
As the content of the qualification is based on core topics I often find that a lot of what is learned is not very relevant to my current job role and more relevant to jobs that I may move onto in the future. however I understand that the content cannot be focused into one area as then no one would have the opportunity to move on in the future.
Currently events like these are not possible due to COVID restrictions however the employer has a great Relationship with STEM and therefore when possible there are many opportunities to go out to schools and work with teachers and young learners. In the past there has also been charitable sports events to take part in.
Yes
It is a massive employer that has many career opportunities internally therefore even if you feel as though your current role is not for you then they will make every effort to find one that suits you more. It also has many benefits such discounts on certain shops and brands.
Show that you are willing to work as a team as it is one of the most important skills to have in BAE. Show that you are willing to learn lots of new skills as there is a lot to learn when starting the job. Finally show that you are innovative and good at coming up with new ideas as well as problem solving.
