I Am a full time Trainee site manager, actively working on a project as Assistant site manager along side a a full site team. A day to day to job involves a ever-changing demand of attention from Inductions and method statement reviews, to reviewing quality or health and safety or programme progress. Amongst working with multiple supply chains at different stages of the project from groundworks to final decorations and continue updating the client on progress throughout till handover.
I have learnt and developed further vital key skills associated with working on a construction project such as planning, communications skills, professional writing practices, design and engineering IT software as well as computer literacy. In Addition i have learnt the theory and practice's at university to apply in the work environment.
I thoroughly enjoy the scheme and road map plan i have on offer at Kier, it provides a strong balance of work base practice and university theory. its the best option for me as i can struggle with pure theory learning and no on site experiences to relate the theory too.
Kier and University need to have discussions , a good structure is the backbone to excellent performance and the current setup just isn't fit in the new apprenticeship structure and COVID have a very negative impact on the course layout as such and has resulted for me in University lectures and support not being delivered correctly and Kier/University not providing the correct software on time for the course.
The Support is great, i have multiple managers that all provide a great line of communication and support, they offer their knowledge and support where they can and use this to my advantage to help me develop even further as a professional. At time work loads can be heavy , but the job at times does require the extra push from time to time.
The training provider support is great and Kier only choice the very best and top quality providers, i have done numerous courses with from 3 day first aid to both the 2 day sssts to now my more recent one being the 5 day smsts course. Every course i have done has been essential for my development
The training provided by Sheffield Hallam university is top quality, the course has been running for 10 years before the apprenticeship scheme update and the vast knowledge and relationship with Kier shows and the key sections of the course are directly relevant with my day to day role and future progression paths.
I Don't get involved in a lot of outer work activities due to other commitment as well, but i do often get engaged with corporate charitable events such as fundraisers and community engagements events with schools and local authorities etc. often our office will do monthly events too that everyone takes part in.
