The work experience involved and covered a wide range of topics given by lots of trainees and people who work at the firm. We had multiple presentations about entry to law and street law. Also, we had the opportunity to hear from lawyers at the firm and ask questions to them.
I developed my confidence skills as I had to present an argument after a group project. It helped me to break out of my comfort zone. In addition, it helped me to improve my commercial awareness and find out more about what it is like to work in a huge commercial law firm.
I enjoyed my work experience very much as there was a huge range of presentations and panels which covered a lot of areas of law i had never considered before. I was able to meet and speak to like minded students which have helped me to start thinking about my networking skills.
The work experience placement was very well organised. We had used a platform called Forage which had our schedule on it and showed us when our sessions were. The platform also had lots of extra videos organised into different sections which was also beneficial. The people leading the programme were so helpful and responded to emails very quickly.
I learned a lot about the company culture. I found out that it is a very friendly company and lots of the lawyers there think of it as a family. They are very accommodating and inclusive of all types of people as there are multiple minority groups who are represented there.
This work experience placement has been very helpful as it has solidified my thought of working in the legal sector. We heard from a range of people about their journey of how they got into Api sent Masons and the application process. Hearing from lawyers made the process seem less daunting.
As this was a work experience placement, we were not paid for our time during the few days. But as I had applied to gain experience, the placement delivered on that. In the future, vacation schemes with Pinsent Masons, the scheme is paid which is something to look forward to!
There were multiple panels with trainee solicitors and people who had gone through a legal apprenticeship. This allowed us to hear first hand experience from people working at Pinsent Masons. As this placement was online, it was quite hard to network but considering the circumstances, it was very well done.
Yes
The work experience placement was so useful for my legal journey into becoming a lawyer. I explored areas of law which I had never considered before. Also, by hearing from trianees and hearing their journeys and experiences, it gave me more confidence into applying for jobs and further work experience placements.
I would say go for it and throw yourself into this amazing opportunity. This might be one of the first experiences into the legal sector you might have so ask lots of questions and be really engaged. You will get so much out of the work placement and it’s so helpful.
