I participated in many fun and informative sessions, delivered by a variety of people such as trainee solicitors, qualified solicitors, paralegals, etc. Some of the sessions included a Legable website presentation, alternative careers in the legal sector, panel talk with trainee solicitors, CV and application tips, Legal Apprenticeships Q&A, and so many more. I have broadened my knowledge of the legal sector, and have figured out that I definitely would like a career in it in the future.
Knowledge of the legal sector, how to stand out on legal applications, how to be more self-confident, how to access many legal resources, what to look out for when applying to university to do law, the many different legal sectors that exist and their different job roles, and so much more.
I loved my virtual law work experience at Pinsent Masons, as they are one of the biggest law firms in England, and it was amazing to be able to meet so many of their trainee solicitors, solicitors, and members of their team in many different legal sectors. It met and exceeded all my expectations that I had for them, and I loved every session, especially the small group meetings with supervisors, as I could learn the reality of day to day work in law.
It was very well structured and set out by using the website 'Forage'. It was very easy to navigate, and had easy to understand sections such as 'Schedule' or 'Resources' where I could easily find my timetable for each of the 3 days, any extra resources that would increase my knowledge even further, and any tasks set.
Many of the Pinsent Masons trainee solicitors and solicitors expressed their personal experiences and their journeys that led to them working at Pinsent Masons, and I loved hearing each one. I learned about the ethos and the values that Pinsent Masons stand for, and how well they are practiced in the workplace, using the shared experiences from some of the employees that came from minority ethnic groups for example.
I was already very interested in the legal sector and becoming a solicitor in general, however this virtual experience allowed me to be even more sure of my decision, and to introduce me to so many different sectors that I could possibly go into, along with the day to day experiences from all their employees. I received a trainee solicitor supervisor, who was able to highlight any of my personal questions, and deliver amazing feedback and guidance about applying to uni, vacation schemes, training contracts, etc.
As this was a free virtual experience, there weren't many expenses, therefore it was delivered from the comfort of my own home, I didn't have to travel anywhere, have any meal/social costs etc. However, the whole programme was delivered to me for free, I had some amazing talks with many solicitors without cost, and I got provided with some free social sessions too.
There were many opportunities for networking, as I had opportunity to meet many trainee solicitors, paralegals, and solicitors from such a prestigious firm like Pinsent Masons, and was regularly encouraged to connect with everyone either through LinkedIn, or other social media. I provided them with my contact details, and they will continue to send me any events, work experience opportunities, or newsletters about future experiences too.
Yes
They seem like such a genuine, friendly and accepting firm, that cares for all their employees, go out of their way to accommodate personal life and other commitments, and give schedules that fit around their other commitments. Everyone seems so caring, and the employees don't have a bad word to say about them.
I would encourage anyone to participate in this virtual work experience if they get the chance, as it's so insightful, provides you with a certificate of achievement at the end of the programme, gives help and advice on university/apprenticeship applications, CV's, how to secure training contracts, and many more invaluable things, that was all for free!
