  • i spend 4 days a week working in devonport dockyard and 1 day a week at college studying a HNC in naval architecture.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have completed a faburcation and welding course in my first year and have learned valuable skills such as managing a team and organizing work to accive deadlines

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Everyday i could be working on something different and i wake up in the morning looking forward to going to work and learning more about the industy

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very organised with a training plan over the 4 year apprentiship, if i have a problem it is usally resolved by the end of the day

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots, my managers are always keen for a chat and to find out how we are getting on and any ways they could improve.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I recieved a lot in my first year but since covid started and i have started my HNC it has became a bit unorganized with some of my colleagues being logged out of there accounts and still waiting for there accounts to be unlocked by the training provider

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the training from my training provider gave me a good baseline of understanding but i learned the majority of my knowlage through working in the dockyard as this is applying my knowlage and learning on the job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, theres lots of different accivities which are open to get involved with, some of these are department based and some are across the whole company

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's an excelent career to get involved in and i already have a couple of friends trying to join for this years intake


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • Get some work experience in the dockyard if possible as this will help when it comes to the interview stage
