Currently with my job role we are learning skills in different fields so that when we join the dockyard later this year we can go into our different placements with a general understanding. This is a real helps as we can begin to visualise the area we will be in.
I have learnt and developed many new interesting skills. Before this apprenticeship I was very book based. I decided to take a leap and this was something completely new and out of my comfort zone. All of the new skills I’ve learnt have really developed me as an individual.
I really enjoy this programme. This is a completely new experience for me and I couldn’t have chosen better. Being so hands on is a real nice change for me and I’m happy to say I throughly enjoy my job and can’t wait to progress further.
Due to Covid our current programme is as structured as it can be. We still cover all the necessary subjects just sometimes not in the order or with the speed we might like. However, we make do and still enjoy our time in the workshop and perform our tasks to the best of our ability.
Our lecturer [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is a great support and is always willing to help and grow our knowledge base and work on areas that need improvement. We have also had regular visits from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] which has been nice as we feel the company still has input even through these difficult times.
We receive slot of support and aid from our training provider as we are both Stan understanding that we want to perform to the best of our abilities. They know we are all driven individuals and only need guidance to achieve what we want to achieve. This for us is the best support we could revive.
I’m learning lots of different skills from lots of different areas which has given me an understanding and a form of comfort for when we enter the dockyard. I feel prepared and that with some further guidance and adjustments within the dockyard that I’ll fit into the job role nicely.
As far as I’m aware there are groups within the dockyard you are able to join but other than that I’m not sure. Personally I love volleyball abs play it on the regular so if I found there was a team in which I could play for within the dockyard then I’d sign up right away.
Yes
I’ve found a nice stability within the company and feel there is so much room for growth and development that it would be a shame to pass up. I know many of my friends would grow well within the company they just need to find their feet first and see where they want to go.
Be yourself is one of the most important things. When it comes to any job role you need to show your own individuality to shine and find your fit. I found that as a person I’ve really opened up and am more myself in the workshop than I have been in any other setting and I am happier than ever.
