My work experience at Irwin Mitchell entailed a variety of tasks. Each day we were given the opportunity to gain an insight into a variety of areas in law. During my weeks work experience I gained experience in medical negligence, corporate, workplace illness/ ARD, banking and finance and family law.
During my work experience I learnt the skills of being more confident and independent. Each day we were assigned tasks, which we had to complete after being provided instructions on how to tackle the task. This required me to be independent and ask questions on areas I was struggling with.
This work experience was enjoyable and a great opportunity to help me distinguish which area of law is best suited for me. I enjoyed being assigned multiple tasks and working my hardest to complete them. Being provided with feedback was insightful, as I gained information on what I can improve.
My work experience was extremely well planned, structured and organised. There were extra sessions within the day, such as a talk from a barrister, which helped us do a variety of things within a day. As the work experience was virtual, it was nice to take breaks from the tasks.
I asked the solicitors some questions about why they chose to work at Irwin Mitchell. They all spoke extremely positively about the companies culture and how they worked effectively to provide them with the resources to work from home. This shows how the company cares about the wellbeing of its employees.
My work experience allowed me to consider which areas of law I would prefer and which areas are not suited for me. Experiencing the areas that are not suited for me allowed me to rule those options out and focus on the ones that I found interesting, enjoyable and fun.
This work experience was an unpaid opportunity, where I got the chance to talk to solicitors at the firm. It allowed me to ask questions, which I would not have been able to ask if it wants for this opportunity. Each solicitor honestly answered my questions and provided important advice.
The whole event was tailored around networking and meeting employees from the firm. Each task was assigned via a solicitor who would then provide feedback on the work that I had completed throughout the day. In addition, there were also extra sessions which allowed us to network with external speakers.
Yes
I would recommend Irwin Mitchell to a friend because I am aware of how knowledgable and experienced the employees are. Each solicitor was approachable and understanding which are great attributes to entail. During my time at Irwin Mitchell the solicitors would listen to my questions without judgement and provide answers.
I would advice students that are applying to Irwin Mitchell to not be afraid to ask questions. Each solicitor is understanding and supportive, so there is not reason to be anxious. If you can't complete the task then feel free to email the solicitors and they will help you.
