My role at work from day to day is to test systems onboard the royal navy’s submarines. I test all systems and focus and health and safety at all times. I solve problems and fit parts and components onboard. I also do reactor work onboard submarines in the dockyard
The skills that I have learnt in the dockyard with Babcock international include many engineering skills such as fitting, removal , health and safety , overhauling parts, communication , computer skills ,paperwork skills , reading engineering drawing skills, maths skills. I feel I develop these skills on a Day to day basis when working
I really enjoy the work I do from day to day, I find some jobs challenging and always make sure I try my hardest as it’s very satisfying when jobs are complete, I enjoy working with engineers who have similar hobbies to myself and rarely have issues in work
My engineer program is well organised for the most part in the dockyard our days are very organised as we all know why have very important duties and responsibilities, I feel that college could be better structured as there have been issues in the past that have meant we have not had experienced teachers
I receive a lot of support from Babcock international and the dockyard for the most part I feel I can speak to my bosses confidently when I need support or advice and always know I will not be judged a lot is offered and all support is easily accessible always
When working towards qualifying as a mechanical competent fitter I feel I can ask all other fitters and engineers questions about the work and feel they support me and when I was at college I could ask tutors for support and most of them would be able to help me
Through college and dockyard practical work I feel my qualification will help me be a good confident and competent engineer who would be able to help and assist others when needed, without this qualification I feel it would be hard to get a good grasp of the work that I do
Through the covid period to reduce contact there have been no extra curricular activities that I can get involved in I order to try and stop the spread of virus I’m sure after the covid period they will start to have more sports teams and extra activities available
Yes
I would from my experience recommend Babcock to a friend I feel this company have always supported me and met my needs. I feel like it’s a very good job especially for people who are leaving school and want to start working straight away and end up with the same qualifications as others
Always try your hardest to be the best worker you can be as it reflects back- meaning you are treated very well if you work efficiently and try and meet the best of your abilities. Taking notes about engineering work is very valuable as I refer back to notebooks all the time
