My role evolves around the machining segment of Hams Hall, where we machine 1.5M components each year. I am responsible for assisting designated maintenance teams with tasks such as; technical maintenance support, preventative maintenance and business improvements.
Problem solving is important and should be developed immensely. Practical skills are also vital. Organisation is a very important skill to learn and develop.
BMW Hams Hall is a great place to work and I like being part of the team.
Each placement is typically 3-months with 1-day a week at college. On plant, the training is organised and structured however, college days need improvement.
At Hams Hall my Training Adviser and Placement Manager are both very supportive and friendly, they deal with all enquires and assist as much as they can.
They provide sufficient support and assistance in order to aid with achieving the qualification, usually respond to enquires and have a students body for feedback.
Many units are relevant and provide foundation knowledge and skills, I believe the combination of training at college and experience on plant is satisfactory preparation to be able to competently perform my role.
We have a vast network which we utilise between the BMW Group Plants, currently there are no social activities however, internal training can be applied for.

The apprentice programme is great, I had initially gone to university however, after discovering the opportunities offered by apprenticeship schemes I knew that was a better way forward.
Conduct research regarding the business and role you are applying for before attending interview. Be sure to prepare for the assessment centre by practising team work activities, building challenges and interview.
