To drive the bus safely within the trained route which is TFL contracts and to serve bus stops to let customers in/out. You need to do various shifts patterns that involves earlies, middles and lates. You need to also do first use check of vehicle and use communication system to controller or nmcc.
The main skills i have learned is mostly how to be a professional driver and how to do a first use check of such a big vehicle. You also improve your ability to be calm and also be a better in communication as you have to use P.A system.
The program is very good because we genuinely get good sessions from our TDO/mentors and the company is very supportive when you are knew to the industry. They have more compassion for when you make errors and give you that margin to learn from it. Its not military.
The structure is very good and it was very detailed from the start. We got given a schedule for the year which stated all the dates and when the courses was going to take place. We have the numbers of our TDO for which we can call or email to get support.
The employer gives lots of support with their own training team and they make sure allocations always gets us to be off for the day we have training( paid training). The mentor is available for questions and driving managers have a open door policy if it needs to go that far.
Great support from the training provider. Very patient TDO who always goes the extra mile to help us with the work and tasks. You never feel bad for asking for advice because they have a good posture even in messaging out of hours. Really really good experience with the team.
I think the qualification will give me a very good foundation in order to be a very good bus driver in every aspect. The material we learn is important to understand all the angles of the industry and only experience will help you mold into the top professional you can be.
There is no sport clubs activities as far as the company is concerned. Since i been with the company there has been no social events or any local community ones as far as i am aware but to be fair COVID might have ruined some of the aspects in that area.
Yes
Just a good company to work for with good values and good routes to learn. The routes is quite good and they have a good pay packet and benefits. I think its also a company that has room for progression and going into other areas like IBUS controller or lead driver.
The best piece of advice is to be sharp on the interview stage and be confident when questions are asked. If you make it through to the medical parts then make sure at all costs you are not under the influence of drugs etc as this will hurt you and waste your time/abellio time. Make sure if you want to be a bus driver you are willing to change your ways and accept shift work. Be willing to work and have goof attitude.
