This role involves working on bottling and canning lines. The work is electrical and mechanical engineering. A range of skills are used to solve problems and repair machines which are broken. Some improvements are also made to the systems. The first year is spent at college and the rest at work on day release.
Yes, I have learnt new electrical, machining, welding, pneumatics, mechanical maintenance, fitting and technical drawing skills. As well as doing btec which has taught me a great deal about material science, communications, health and safety, electronics, design, maths, electronic and mechanical principles. There are also a lot of skills to be learned when at work.
I enjoy the apprenticeship. It is good to learn new skills at college as well as learning on the job. I enjoy the pay as-well. I am enjoying working and doing something I find interesting whilst earning money, getting qualifications, working in a great team and learning new things everyday.
The program could be organised better, some days I am not busy. There isn’t always work for the apprentices. As I’ve been given more responsibility as the apprenticeship has gone on there has been more jobs for me to do and I have been more busy. Very good.
At Britvic we receive a lot of support from the employer. The company treats its employees very well with lots of benefits and perks of the job. There is lots of support from the whole team at rugby everyone talks to you and will offer help and guidance where they can.
The training provider do provide a great deal of support. They set targets and carry out regular reviews to plan out and manage your work and development. They have a set of behaviours which get reviewed and commented on and goals are set on the behaviours which require more development.
My training provider helps me to perform better in my role through teaching basic skills, teaching how to conduct myself in the workplace and lots of knowledge on the engineering world. Lots of previous experience with other apprentices also means they can help out a lot with any apprenticeship related help.
There are social and extra curricular activities to do at britvic which generally involve meetings and discussions. I have never really got involved with any of that but I know they’re are things out there if it is your cup of tea. There isn’t a sports team as far as I am aware.
Yes
Britvic is a great place to work with lots of benefits. I can’t say I have worked anywhere else as good. The pay is really good for an apprentice and there is a good share incentive scheme which I like very much. Everyone gets on well and is happy to help.
Really sell yourself. You want to be a hardworking individual as well as being able to work in a team well. Communication is important and it is worth trying to back yourself up with evidence of real life stories were you have demonstrated things like team work, problem solving, hard work, overcoming difficulties and show them your passion for engineering.
