Currently we’re in college everyday learning new hand skills and practical work to advance our skills for when we go into the dockyard in september. This includes welding, thermal cutting and other fabrication processes. We also do a city and guilds unit to learn theory and health and safety.
I have improved my confidence massively due to working with new people that include a variety of ages and also a male dominated environment. However I’ve also gained new skills within the workshop and also improved my problem solving skills a lot during this time. I learn and develop new skills daily.
I could not of chose a better company to work with as there has not been any moments where I regret it or have wanted to leave. I continuously make myself a better and more knowledgeable person based on and out of the job role and can’t wait for the future.
Considering we have had to deal with covid lockdowns the programme has been very organised with allowing us to continue with online learning and also planning our practical tasks beforehand to ensure we are able to complete all of them despite time limitations preventing us from having much time to do so.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. We are made aware frequently that if we have any issues to not hesitate to contact them and ask for assistance. Within college everyone is very helpful too and you are never left unsupported there. They make you feel confident to ask for help.
Within college we receive a lot of support from our instructors and they are always willing to help out no matter how small the problem may be. Our employer has also provided a lot of training courses to assist us with our knowledge over the lockdown which has helped a lot.
Massively. Without doing my qualification I would not know a lot of information about the processes I carry out within my role. Especially as we cannot experience everything until we are in the dockyard, meaning we are more prepared and knowledgable about our role beforehand. I am continuously making progress in the workshop due to also completing my theory.
Currently no. But this is because of the covid 19 lockdown preventing this from happening. However when I go into the dockyard I am hoping to get involved in the women in stem team and I have also volunteered for the Babcock apprenticeship advertising event this year to help encourage others to join.
Yes
I haven’t worked in a company where I’ve felt so comfortable and supported before. I’m continuously learning new skills everyday within my role and also as a person. I’ve been able to gain confidence massively in such a short amount of time and don’t think I would be able to experience this in any other company as Babcock is so supportive and caring as an employer.
Just go for it and believe in yourself. It’s daunting applying for a role within such a big company but you feel like a family with the group you work closely with. It’s an amazing opportunity to develop new skills where you can’t normally do so in other places.
