My day to day role involves working through emails in a shared inbox, answering queries and liaising with the technology team to get password resets for users accounts for the internal training system. I also created spreadsheets and dashboards using key metrics and data taken from user feedback.
There are internal personal development goals which I have worked on including having effective communication and conversations, and also had the chance to work on my skills using all Microsoft Office programmes.
My program was very good at introducing me to the world of business/banking. I had never been involved in Project work before and so this was a good introduction. I would say that sometimes there was a lack of things for me to do and so there was some waiting around for others to give me work to complete.
Well organised, there was a soft introduction into the programme and introductions made with the teams. BPP were amazing at structuring the study side of the programme so it never felt overwhelming. I was assigned tasks by my line manager and was made aware very early on around the team hierarchy.
I received support from my employer from the very first day. They were excellent at setting us up on all the systems and introducing us to the project world. There was always someone around to ask questions and many people were expectant of this. However I did feel at times that because everyone is so busy within their own roles there was sometimes instances where my emails wouldn't be answered, or they generally didn't have the time/capacity to support me.
BPP were very supportive. I had a regular monthly meeting in with my coach where in we discussed everything I had been taught and how I felt about this, as well as how my day to day role linked in with this. I always felt like she had time for me. Outside of our 1-1s she would always pick up my emails, send me templates and guidance material to help me along and was generally a massive support. It always felt like she was more than happy to help me and support me through.
I feel it helps me perform better as I had no introduction to Business before this. Whilst I probably won't apply all my learnings in my day to day role, the overall teachings of effective communication, understanding GDPR, and the interactive webinars are some things that I will use in my regular job role.
There are some extra-curricular activities, most can be found on the internal social networking system. However, I haven't had much exposure to these, and although I know they are out there, I don't think I would know the first thing about how to join them.
Yes
It is a good place to really understand the aspects of Business, Banking, and project work. It was a good introduction to the world of 9-5 and is a place where in they support your personal and professional development.
When I applied I researched the Values of NatWest and really tried to understand where in their values coincided with my own. For the face to face interview they were very good at providing all the material you could possibly need, and made it very easy to prepare. It is important that you do prepare for this as my face to face interview was over 2 hours long. I would have liked to have been told that this would be an incredible opportunity and one that would really set your professional career up.
