  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I act as a first point of contact for small SMEs, providing solutions for their business needs. I also provide administrative support to relationship managers, helping them manage a portfolio of clients. On a day to day basis, this means managing excess, dealing with queries, booking meetings, doing service calls and preparing credit documents.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have both learned new skills and developed skills I already had. The new skills are developed are around lending processes, analyzing financial information and providing the right funding solutions to SMEs. The skills I have developed are mostly around communication, customer service, time management, influencing and networking as well as digital skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoyed the programme. This has been a great opportunity to learn and reflect on my day to day role. I really like the different themes studied during the apprenticeship and the time I was given as part of the programme has really allowed me to develop myself and explore areas I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was well structured with a webinar to cover the subject of the mission and then we had 6 weeks to complete the mission which involved reflection on the theme and providing work examples related to the mission. Throughout support was available from my coach and the feedback was always constructive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my employer and my team. I have been given all the time I needed to complete my apprenticeship and support from line manager and colleagues was always available when I needed it. I was also given time to work on projects which would help raise my profile within the organisation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received all the support required from the training provider. Throughout the apprenticeship, my coaches were readily available to help by email or on the phone and the feedback I received was always constructive and I was pushed to go a bit further each time to ensure I can achieve the distinction criteria at the end of the programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think rather than perform better in my role, the qualification has helped reflect on my role and my career and given the tools and behaviours required to be successful in my organisation. It has given me a different outlook on how to approach my career and personal development which will benefit me greatly in my current and future roles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to the pandemic, we have been working from home for over a year and I haven't seen my colleagues in person during that time so there hasn't been a great deal of extra curricular activities. However, I am part of an apprentice council in which we organise virtual events for apprentices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Natwest is a great place to work where learning and personal development are at the heart of the organisation. As I mentioned previously, the support I received from my team has been second to none and I was also supported by our regional director when I requested to take an additional professional qualification.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • To bring their personality and to be who they are as Natwest values diversity and inclusion, not to be scared to ask for support when they need it, to show they are eager to learn and develop themselves and to research about Natwest purpose and values and think of real life examples they can match to those values.
