I work in an intermediate rehabilitation centre and as the lead adult care worker I do medication risk assessment, mental capacity assessment, MDT meetings with therapist and social workers , lead the team with day to day activities, complete care plans, do environmental checks. I also administer medication and assess customers for any equipment they require while staying with us
I have gained confidence in doing MDT meetings and also by working alongside district nurses and GPs. I have also increased my general understanding of the problems facing the elderly in our community and this has given me more experience handling medical emergencies. I also have a greater understanding of fluid and diet and their importance
I have gained more knowledge and understanding of the policy and procedures around social care and how this links in to my daily routine. I have a greater understanding of the duty of candour and the code of conduct. I also feel more confident when carrying out my job role on a daily basis
Very organised, my tutor has had to learn new skills also to help deliver her training as I started my program at the start of the covid epidemic. All face to face classes cancelled and then reorganised via zoom. Some Apprentices did not have the necessary skills to do this and my tutor had to establish those skills with the other apprenticeship involved
I have been given lots of support and have never felt afraid to ask. My tutor has been excellent and kept me involved and informed every step of the way and also lifted me back up when things seemed impossible. She has the ability to reach out and uplift you just when you need it .
All the support I need, she is available via telephone or zoom and always gets back to me when I struggle or need extra support. She can rephrase things which enables me to understand better and help simplify things when they look to complicated or difficult. My tutor is always ready to give me that extra boost of support just at the right time
My qualification will give me the confidence to undertake my daily work load as I now have the background information behind lots of policy’s and procedures. I know where each of the statutory regulations fall in regards to my job role and why they are in place and why we must follow these at all times
We don’t have any activities at the moment because of Covid. But I do enjoy socialising with my work colleagues either by having nights out of meeting for coffee and cake. We also have weekends away and these I look forward to very much as you see a different dude to the people you work with .
Yes
I have enjoyed my experience and have always felt that my opinion mattered. As an older apprentice I was very apprehensive about staring the program but once I started and my tutor gave me all the confidence I needed. I felt that I was able to not only finish my apprenticeship but also so very well with it
I find the best way to undertake the training is to give yourself reasonable deadlines , ones which you can keep and then endure you do. Best not to fall behind as playing catch-up is never good and your work will show this. Do the best you can and use your own life experiences when possible
