Creat programmes/ schedules of works. to work out labour resources needed on site to complete said tasks. to monitor progress against delivery and contractual programmes whilst reviewing the programmes press and making amendments where needed. I also need to input progress into the as built programmes for monitoring against delays
In my time at Kier, I have devolved my communication by participating in meetings and briefings, these have also helped me to boost my confidence when talking to a large number of people. Kier have helped me to develop my IT knowledge by teaching me how to use various systems
I enjoy the programme as it has taught me alot about myself and has taught me alot a bout the construction industry. It has given me the opportunity to meet new people and make some close friends.
Despite covid and our course now being done over Teams, the course has been kept profesional and has been delivered really well. We constantly recieve emails from our mentors within kier and the university with any updates or changes to the course.
I receive ample support from my employer, I get support from my Line manager, I also get support from my director and multiple employees throughout the business. My director has offered me support such as 'study time' during the week, I have the option for an hour a day or a full Friday every two weeks for study time
Again, I receive ample amount of support from the university, The university have a number of helplines we can contact at any point in time to get support whether this is for financials reasons or stress related situations. I receive emails on a weekly basis from my university mentor checking in with me to see how I am and whether I need any support
Whether it be university or any training course that Kier send me on, These all help me in gaining valuable knowledge in which will help me to progress and to preform better within my role at work. The other benefit to uni is that the course is developed for a number of different job roles within construction. This gives me valuable knowledge about how other job roles work within the business which also helps me to perform/ interact better with my colleagues
Whilst being based on site, myself and the site team tend to get lunch together once a week as part of a switch off lunch where we can enjoy lunch as a team, we also have social value events within kier, We have had games of kindness bingo within the company. Kier also have ambassadors which I am, this means we go travel to various schools and colleges and deliver presentations about joining the construction industry and other information.
Yes
The reason I would recommend kier group to somebody is simply due to the level of support and teaching they offer out to individuals. Kier are all for developing their apprentices and graduates and they offer endless support. The projects that kier have to work on are fascinating and each project you work on is different in many ways
The advice I would give to people looking to join kier would be to do research into construction jobs. Before I joined i did some research on what job roles construction actually had to offer. this opened my eyes as a job like mine is rarely known unless you already work in the industry. Basically there is a wide variety of jobs within construction that are sometimes unheard of or known about so make sure reasearch is done as there might be a job role that jumps out to you but you never knew existed.
