i work front of house in a marstons rotisserie pub in east yorkshire. on a day to day basis i serve customers by taking orders, clearing & wiping tables, servings drinks from the bar and just generally taking care of all of the customers needs whilst visiting us, ensuring they are happy.
i have definitely developed my existing skills such as being more confident when i am talking to customers and even being able to manage multiple tasks at once with more ease. i have recently learnt how to work on the bar since turning 18 aswel so that is a new skill.
i thoroughly enjoy the programme i am on especially because i have such a lovely trainer and i look forwards to being on a call with her every month... i also enjoy the work i have to do as theres different styles of learning such as videos, sheets or just being talked to by my trainer.
the apprenticeship programme i am on is structured extremely well. everything is laid out in a logical way and everything is easy to find. i use the lifetime training website aswel as mylife for all of the work i need to complete. They both link up very well which makes it easy to use.
i receive a lot of support from my employer regarding my apprenticeship as he wants me to succeed and therefore is trying to push me along and help me out whenever i need him to. i am also supported by all of the other members of staff that i work with.
i receive a lot of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications and there is always plenty of resources for me to use to help me along the way with my work. i havent used it but i believe there is a live chat/contact number to speak to someone for help aswel.
my qualification helps me to perform better in my role of a front of house team member as it allows me to perfect everything i do and work to the best of my ability. im also more aware of how a pub runs and legislations i need to know etc.
there is not any extra curricular activities to get involved in at my work such as sports teams or professional networking events however we do have a staff get together roughly once a year where we all meet up and go out to do something and go for a meal which helps to team to connect.
Yes
i think marstons is a great company to work for... despite being hard work at busy periods its very rewarding working with people you love to be around and also seeing and meeting customers all the time. marstons has plenty of great platforms including two different training apps to allow us to better ourselves.
one of the tips or advice i would give to someone else who is applying to work for marstons would be to just be themselves. marstons accept a diverse range of people which is brilliant! also i advise to know what theyre getting themselves into because despite being rewarding it is very hard work!
