My role consists of raising purchase orders and completing other financial transactions such as raising sales invoices and processing purchase invoices. I also complete a weekly BACs run to make sure all suppliers that we owe money to are paid in a timely manner. I also produce spreadsheets to show things such as consumption charges.
Yes i have been studying towards my AAT at level 4 and have learnt various elements of accounting including things such as payroll, personal tax, management accounting and financial documents. On the job i have also learnt various things including coding and taxation when processing invoices and other purchase ledger documents.
I have enjoyed my apprenticeship and feel like i have progressed professionally whilst also gaining experience. I enjoy taking on new tasks and using what i have learnt on my course in an actual working scenario. Completing my course made me feel like i had accomplished something and now i have something to show for my efforts.
The Lessons at Kaplan were organised very well both when i was based in the classroom and when i did my classes virtually on zoom, however the portfolio side of my apprenticeship didn't seem as well organised and communication wasn't as good as expected, which lead to a delay in finishing my apprenticeship.
My employers were helpful, as they paid for my travel and allowed me a day a week to work towards my studies, they also helped me where possible with certain aspects of my course to try and make things clearer if i wasn't completely sure. This was a big help.
The tutors that i had for my classes were very helpful whenever i contacted them by email or if i asked them in the classroom. My talent coach was helpful when they gave me feedback and replied to my emails, however alot of the time this was delayed and had to wait for a response.
I think it is good because it gives me a basis to work from and it also means i am able to relate the scenarios in my studies to an actual working environment, although i feel like experience on the job is much more beneficial when performing the actual job.
The only social activities we really do in work is occasionally we would go out for meals for special events such as Christmas or for financial year end. This is good as it means we are able to see colleagues from other schools that we normally only have contact with by email.
Yes
They were able to get me through my qualification so i think it is a good company in the short term while gaining experience and qualifications, however in the long run for a more permanent job role i think there are other companies that i would favor when looking for work.
Make sure you have a plan on when you want to do and consult with them about what the potential employment prospects would be upon completing the apprenticeship. They are good for gaining qualifications but will have higher expectations of you the more you take on with little reward for it.
