I am involved in public auditing. Therefore I work on a variety of clients to audit and review their financial statements, ensuring that they are produced in an an appropriate manner to the correct accounting standards. This is done through a variety of techniques, such as testing accounts and verifying balances.
I had come into this role with no previous accounting experience, so I have learnt a lot since I have been here. My first 6 months have involved around 2/3 months of college . This has allowed me to develop a strong understanding in accounting, which I'm now building on in my work.
It has been both enjoyable and hard work at the same time. Balancing both my work and studying commitments has been difficult at times, especially during busy season. But I have enjoyed the aspect that I have a strong peer group, and I know I am learning a lot constantly which will progress my career.
Extremely well organised, PwC will have been running these apprenticeships for many years. So there is an extremely streamlined path which you follow down. This has meant that it is well organised, and you know the layout of your course months in advance. This has made it easy to plan further down the line.
The support received from PwC has been excellent. They have a dedicated professional qualifications team, who are on hand to answer any questions that you may have. This has made it incredibly easy to solve any issues you may have during the process. They are also understanding of the time needed to study for exams alongside working.
Kaplan has also been great and helping me alongside PwC. The training that they have provided for our professional examinations has been excellent. With the tutors being enthusiastic, and willing to help any way they can. They also provide a talent coach which helps out with other aspects of the course which is useful.
The qualification through the training provider is essential for the work I'm doing. The ACA provides a great training in overall accounting. Then once you're chartered it opens up a whole world of opportunities to take advantage of. This has helped provide thhe basisi of knowledge I use in my work, and without it I couldn't perform.
Due to covid, there has obviously been a downturn in the amount of activities available. But work have still attempted to bring people together through virtual socials, quizzes and general activities. This has helped to get to know the office. As lockdown eases I hope to get involved in all the other activities they offer.
Yes
They provide exceptional training to anyone at the beginning of their career. A lot of this comes from the pathway that they provide to balance exams with working. But this also comes from the variety of clients that you work on, exposing you to multiple different areas. Also helps working with great people!
I would say to them that firstly they need to be themselves and be confident in that. Although lots of audit work is done individually. What they are mostly looking for is confident individuals who can communicate well with clients. As this makes up a large amount of your daily work.
