My role involves preparing tax returns and answering queries for clients. I work within a team of qualified and non qualified individuals to meet client needs. I work mainly in personal tax on tax returns for individuals, partnerships and trusts and estates. I interact directly with clients and internally with many professionals.
I have developed my communication skills as before working at the firm I have more understanding of my own abilities. I have also developed my leadership skills by training other staff members to do the job I do. I have attended many webinars to develop my technical knowledge and have given many presentations also.
I enjoy learning with Kaplan as well as working within my team. The work I do is interesting and I have been given the opportunity to specialise more into an area of tax that I am keen to know more about. The work I do isn't always easy but there is always help when I need it.
The structure of my programme is mainly managed by myself. I have 6 weekly contact calls with someone from Kaplan who support me on the progress part of the apprenticeship. I do however sometimes feel a bit lost with what I need to do due to the vast array of knowledge needed.
My employer is very supportive, I get allocated days for studying and exam preparation and if I require any more time my manager lets me use some of my working day to get it fitted in. The work I do is demanding at different times of the year so fitting studying into the quiet periods is beneficial.
My training provider helps by providing concise and thorough materials to learn from. My Tutors have been great teaching me and I feel ready to sit the next exam. I wish there was a bit more support for the CBE exams but these are ok to study for at home.
When I first started my role I had no idea what I was doing, I was new to tax and feel that the study course for the ATT qualification has definitely helped me with my day to day work. I find it useful to apply technical knowledge I have learnt to the work I am doing.
I do not get involved in extra-curricular activities due to the demands of my studies. At the moment I work full time and then study most evenings and weekends. I do however take time out to relax, get a bit of exercise and make sure I eat well. The demands of my study course do come first however.

Price Bailey is a great firm to work for. They care about you as an individual and the work we do is for good. Everyone is really friendly and there's always someone to listen to issues if needed. Price Bailey care about their employees and show this through the rewards and benefits they provide.
Be you. When applying for the job, yes you need the qualifications and attributes they are looking for but also they care about the individual. I had 2 interviews with the manager and partner I would be working with to make sure I was a good fit for the team before I was offered the job. Try to have as much on your CV as possible, it does help.
