  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an assistant associate involves a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the audit engagement that I am assigned to, such as cash or liabilities testings or more administrative work such as board minute reviews. This is all while reporting to usually an assistant manager responsible for the audit work being performed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed organisational and communication skills through having to stay on top of a changing workload that require communication with the client of the engagement and reporting to the manager responsible. Problem solving has also been developed through the variables that occur naturally through audit work such as new testing or the need for different testing approaches.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is at times grueling and stressful, however it is incredibly rewarding when each time you study for an exam whilst also having to do the normal job of audit work, you come out of that month or so with a pass in said exam and know that you are one step closer to the qualification and a promising career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme assigns time at college to be taught each module of the ACA qualification with a healthy amount of time before the exam itself in order to allow enough self-study time outside of your day to day job. Although it can be stressful, it teaches discipline and planning as well as organisation skills in order to be prepared for each exam.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Deloitte are hugely supportive about your study and your wellbeing. They are constantly reminding you that they are there to support you through it all and I have also had existing qualified staff assist in extra study towards exams, which proved invaluable when it came to taking them. The support is exceptional.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is invaluable to my role as throughout my study, I am constantly applying my learning to my day to day role from simply understanding credits/debits to understanding the appropriate classifications for expenditures and why certain testings are needed for specific balances when auditing clients. I know that this will continue to develop throughout the qualification.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • From the moment I started at the firm, they blew all of my expectations out of the water, from their emphasis on prioritising the wellbeing of their employees, to the culture of flexibility and support.
