As a Group Reporting Systems accountant, I am responsible for helping with Weekly and monthly reporting queries, setting up and helping to complete the budgeting process, setting up users on the Management information system, building/ creating reports for senior management and other users and setting up new weeks and months in the mis system.
I have been building on my communication skills as before starting the apprenticeship, I was not as confident as I am now. I have also been polishing up on my presentation and leadership skills. In fact I can confidently say I have improved on all the knowledge, skills and behaviours that were required by my professional body and where included in my apprenticeship programme.
Although a lot of additional work is required on top of the usual workload, having the opportunity to build on my knowledge, skills and behaviour within my work and having a clear focus of my future goals and objectives, whether in the long term or short term, is worth the effort.
The programme did have a rocky start as after induction, the communication from the talent coach was poor. However, once the ball got running and as the apprenticeship continued, communication improved and the help and support also improved. So, when I had questions I got a quick response also objectives and tasks etc were set and reviewed on a timely manner.
During my apprenticeship I had a mentor within work that would support me, they were also able to help me with the study part of the appreticeship as they qualified just before my apprenticeship started. I have had a number of managers while i have been completing the apprenticeship and they have been helping me by looking at my progress and identifying and setting tasks to gain the relevant ksbs.
I have been studying for my qualification with my training provider. I have started off by taking part in face to face classroom sessions at one of my training provider's centres and have also been sitting my exams there. They have also provided me with online dashboard where I can get additional help and access to questions etc. Since the pandemic started, I have moved to studying live online, that too with my training provider.
My qualification helps me build on the knowledge and behaviours i require to complete my role competently and up to the required level of quality. Also, the qualification will help me to progress in my career and possibly gain a promotion. Being qualified opens a number of doors within my profession.
We did used to have social activities such as Christmas parties and when colleagues left, we would go for a meal. Also, when planning objectives for the next 3 to 5 years, we would have these offsite and have a social day after completing the plan. However, due to the covid 19 pandemic, these have stopped and it is unlikely they will happen again.
Yes
The organisation is a good company to work for. They are a large organisation with divisions around the United Kingdom, so the opportunity to develop and build on skills is available and the chance of gaining promotions or moving in to different areas within the business is highly likely for individuals.
Read up on the company background as well as the industry background, be confident at the interview. Always think from a fresh perspective and consider how the organisation can improve itself as well as its position in the market. Also, think about your experience and if it relevant to meet the role you have applied for, yes you will build on your skills once in the company, but if you are not competent in the role you have applied for (if it is an experienced role), then you are likely to struggle.
