  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Provide adhoc support and analysis to Finance Business Partners and Financial Planning and Analysis Manager as Necessary. Gaining detailed knowledge of relevant business activities and sales/cost drivers to continually develop clear, concise and relevant financial and management reporting. Following up on key items arising each period and track performance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the Apprenticeship I am required to undertake the CIMA qualification. I have also been given the opportunity to develop Excel skills with an external training provider. Giving me the confidence to complete tasks during my time at work with confidence. We have also been given the opportunity to work with groups on certain tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working within the team with a range of different people and personalities. Working from home has had its challenges when trying to complete new tasks and learn new skills, but the team have made this a positive experience and working with different colleagues has made this learning experience extremely enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction was well organised and structured. Training has been a challenge whilst being over teams but despite this over the past few month I believe I have gained a lot of knowledge in relation to my role and the company and I am looking forward to gaining more knowledge.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received support from my manager and colleagues within the team in relation to my development and are approachable. I believe that I have had guidance with any issues I may have faced whilst at work, the general attitude towards supporting me has been positive overall whilst at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am yet to be assigned a 'Talent Coach' from Kaplan, who will be assisting me whilst studying towards my CIMA qualification. Once I have been assigned a talent coach, I believe I will have 1:1s and reviews with my line manager and the talent coach to discuss my progress.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that so far parts of my qualification have helped my gain a better understanding of tasks I may be involved in within my work place. Helping me to put the theory I have learnt into practice. The CIMA qualification has helped me gain more confidence when engaging with colleagues.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to the current circumstance I have only been able to join online events which are on Zoom with external parties such as Women in Rail and Young Rail Professionals. I have found the events highly beneficial in relation to being able to network and gain a better understanding of the industry.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Southeastern Railway to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that Southeastern has offered me a great opportunity to develop the necessary practical and technical skills to assist the Finance department helping me develop as an individual also supporting me to complete the CIMA qualification. The team at Southeastern have made my experience so far enjoyable and I look forward to continuing to develop professionally.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Southeastern Railway?
  • The application process was fairly straight forward answering questions in regards to why you are applying for the position, the industry, experience you have and experience using Microsoft Office. My experience with the interviews went really well, so I would say to prepare in advance in regards to the interview questions.
