As a dental nurse not only do I assist the dentist in treatment, I also ensure the patient is comfortable and has the best experience possible. On a day to day basis, this involves prepping and mixing materials, cleaning surgeries, running decon as well as chatting and helping patients.
I've learned the importance of teamwork as well as how to adapt to working to a tight time schedule when under pressure. I have also learned how to adapt to new ways of working, due to the pandemic, as well as the best way to help calm patients.
I really enjoy my job. No day is the same and its very active and productive, there is a nice home work divide as well the chance to work at a desk or running the surgery.
My structure at work is well organised. The rota is published every week and I know where I am positioned daily. My course I found to be disorganised as I was moved from tutor to tutor multiple times and often had to push in order to get work marked/set for me.
I receive a lot of support from my tutor and have only had to move my sessions a handful of times.
I have had multiple providers throughout my course, some were more helpful than others. I found that I had to chase and push my providers to set and mark my work for me and have had to get my manager to call/email in in order to get a response or something done sometimes.
My qualification helped me to understand what and why I was doing. This helped to make me more confident in the task I perform. It also helps me to explain to patients what is going on or the process of a treatment when I am talking to them over the phone.
There are no extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. Sometimes we hold a British bake off where a different member of staff bakes something and brings it in each week. We also celebrate each staff members birthday with a party as well as have xmas parties and easter games.

Great atmosphere to work in with lots of friendly staff. Every day is different and there's lots of opportunities to prosper in your career.
To make sure that they can handle timed appointments in a busy practice, especially under pressure. They need to be good at multitasking as well as working under pressure as sometimes you need to be in 2 places at once as well as set something up last minute if there is a change in plans.
