I am responsible for all of the day to day cleaning and disinfecting. I assist the dentists in the surgery and I also sometimes have to answer the phone and deal with the reception jobs too. I have to set up the right equipment, instruments and materials day to day.
I have learnt lots of new skills! I have learnt all about fillings, extractions, endodontics, orthodontics and all about infection control. I have also learnt how to be on reception, booking patients in and how to charge them. I can now charge over the phone too. Learning new things daily.
I love the job role so much and I am very happy in my role. I enjoyed learning new things but I do think sometimes working at the same time as studying (and having exams/course work) can be a challenge. So I can’t wait to just be working.
My assessor does not have the right amount of time to help us. I believe that she should have less students so that she can focus on giving us more help when we need it and more support. My work should allow more flexibility for on the job studying too.
They are lovely and really do try to help. However, through lack of understanding of the course I am on, they tend not to be as helpful as they want to be. They needed to give me 20% on the job study time/shadowing, however, this has never been met.
The support from my assessor is hit and miss, sometimes she is helpful but most of the time she hasn’t got the time to really help us. The other tutors who run the revision sessions are much more helpful and I wish I could have had them to help
I do feel as though I have had to do all of the work myself, which isn’t too bad but I feel as though my basic needs as a student are not met. I have to ask multiple times for the bare minimum. My training provider is not helpful.
Not at the current moment as Covid restrictions are still in place. I do feel as though there will be opportunities to have more networking and stuff, however, I really have not got a clue about them at the present time. It’s just all work at the current time
Yes
Because it is a good job, I do value who I work with and work for. I would tell my friend that it is not as easy as it may seem from the beginning and you need to keep a level of motivation to be able to be comfortably passing
The hours can be longer than you first anticipated, but the work is rewarding. It’s all about teamwork and you need to be willing to help everyone out all of the time, to be able to succeed. There is a great opportunity to start your career in dental nursing
