from week to week I work on different audit, for a wide range of clients. I mainly do the junior areas of a file and if there is time and capacity i will help out the semi senior with more challenging areas. The main areas for a junior are sales, purchases, bank and payroll.
Yes, i already had some basis for my knowledge but my skills are improving daily. Specifically around report writing, being critical of controls clients have in place. I have developed leadership skills too by either by managing my own work load or task and assisting other juniors who started after me.
I am really enjoying it, it is quite a young office because there is a student intake each year of around four students on average so i am surrounded by people who have done what i have/ am doing so there is lots of support available. I am really enjoying the job too.
It is very clear my road map to complete my studies, what i need to do when. I have training logs to fill out, write about my skills and experiences, have regular meetings with my talent coach. Everything is very clear and i always know what i need to do or where i am at.
Yeah loads, there have been a few times where i wanted to develop a skill i.e report writing, so i have spoken to my manager and he has informed me of internal training i can go on. We have a internal training academy with a wide range of videos that will help us lots of different areas of our job to watch as and when we need.
There are always tutors on standby for support, if we do not get a question we can request a call back. My tutors have been quick to reply to emails and sort out any issues. I also have a talent coach who i speak to maybe every 6 weeks who checks in how i am getting on and we can discuss any issues.
Studying to become an accountant through kaplan really helps me in my day to day as it is building on my knowledge so i understand the accounting treatment which then makes me understand my work even more. I know what adjustments i need to make in accounts or how something should be treated.
I joined in September 2020 so i have not been able to do anything yet and i have been working from home for the majority of it but i know there is a social committee and both a spring and Christmas ball/ dinner. We have had hampers from work i.e afternoon tea with then a call with all staff to just have a general catch up as we have not been able to do anything else.
Yes
Yeah, they are a great medium size firm to work for. It is not too big so you do not get lost and you are responsible for your own work. You are not one of 5 working on the same thing. You also get exposure to other areas of the file if there is the capacity.
Research the firm but also the specific office, each office tends to have a certain set of clients i.e manufacturing. Know all the different services they offer as it is much more than just accounts or audit. What they can offer you in terms of studying and know which route you want to go in.
