My role is a dental nurse I assist the dentist in dental procedures, sterilise instruments and decontaminate the surgery. I interact with patients on a day to day basis making sure they are comfortable throughout their treatment. I also work on reception taking calls and booking appointments for patients daily.
I have developed to be calm and confident about communicating with patients in understanding and reassuring manner. I used to be very shy but this apprenticeship taught me confidence. I have learnt to be punctual, always on time and relate to all kinds of people including kids. I can Learn quickly, interested in learning new things- enhancing skills.
I enjoyed my program a lot because my assessor was very much involved with a lot of my work. I am very academically active which is why it wasn’t too hard to adjust the the workbooks I was given and this allowed me to brush up on my assignment skills as well.
My programme is structured well however corona virus hit in the middle of my course which meant I wasn’t able to finish it on the given time and I finished nearly a year later however the course was well layed out meaning I could finish my work without stress.
I have received a lot of support from my employer. Whenever I needed days to study I got them, sometimes I used to study at work in the staff room and my employer catered for me. They always allowed my days to be flexible with my study so it meant I was able to learn alongside the job
I enjoyed my program a lot because my assessor and training provider were involved a lot with me. Whenever we needed any help they were an email away and a text away which made it very easy to ask for any support needed in the time it was needed too
This qualification has helped me to know the basics and more detailed areas of my job. Knowing this allows me to perform better in my role, helping me think outside the box esp. problem solving and having a positive attitude turns stress into positive and calm energy
No there isn’t however we do have CPD days where someone would come in and speak about a certain topic and help up achieve our CPD hours for example we had first aid training and also people coming in from oral b speaking about their products and oral advice
Yes
There is so much support given through this provider that you will never feel like you are alone. It will be as though you are a team and whenever you need extra time for work it is given. There are support sessions for exams too which makes it a lot better to study
Be confident because when you start your apprenticeship it may feel like it’s too much when you are studying and also working however keep persevering you will thank yourself when you achieve your qualification and all the experience from being a part of this company. It’s worth it
