  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily tasks involve undertaking work on the audits of various clients, alongside a team, and testing on a range of areas. My time is split between everyday client work, and then time spent in college, where I learn content for my exams, and which also are beneficial in my day to day work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been on a variety of training courses throughout my first six months, where I learnt new skills, relating to my audit work, and what is required of me in my job, and also developed my transferrable skills, including communication, time management, and working as part of a team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have largely enjoyed getting to know the others on my programme, and I feel like completing an apprenticeship alongside another has really added to my experience, as I have been able to make new friends, and if I have been struggling with anything, I know there's other people I can ask for support from.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure so far has been relatively good- our induction weeks to the company were incredibly insightful, and also gave us a chance to get to know each other. We have a clear timetable for when we are on study/college time, compared to when we should be focused on client work, which is very beneficial for time management.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a large support network, with a range of people I can go to, with queries or concerns about a variety of topics. As well as ensuring that I have support on each client I am working for, from my assistant manager and manager, there is also a focus on wellbeing support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan are very helpful in providing training support. As well as the 6-weekly catch up calls we have with our Kaplan coach, the My Kaplan website provides lots of guidance and information, for any college related queries. There is also a section to 'chat with a tutor' if you are struggling with any more specific issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provided by Kaplan has definitely provided a more solid background to the work I complete on a daily basis. Having a basic understanding of accounting terms, and the key assertions, ensure that I have the best chance of understanding my daily work, and have a knowledge of how best to complete it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Even during Covid 19, there has still been a focus on ensuring we all interact socially, especially the new joiners on the apprenticeship programme. We have had various zoom events, including quizzes and Christmas parties, and are hoping to get back to in person events, such as BBQs and sports events, as soon as restrictions allow.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Deloitte has really made an effort to make sure us as new joiners feel welcome, despite the remote working environment, and have been incredibly supportive as we begin our careers in the audit and assurance industry. I look forward to what's next to come, as we are able to get back into offices, and onto client sites.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Make sure you do your research for the application process, and what Deloitte are looking for, but for the interview section, also just try to be yourself. Its more than just your knowledge of the industry and the business; its how you interact with people, and make an impact, as so much of your work will revolve around human interactions and conversation.
