As a deputy manager, I work alongside the manager in the daily running of the setting, organising the structure, sorting out finances and bills, organisation of the Rotas and payroll, overview of policies and procedures, staff training, supervisions and appraisals and of general daily jobs and check within the setting.
I have done lots of training whilst being at the job, I have done first aid training, many different safeguarding training course, including advanced, I have done food hygiene, many children’s learning training as well as SEND training. I have also completed my Level 3 management course as well as in the process of my Level 5.
I am finding the level 5 training course very interesting. I have had many sessions with my tutor which is a positive learning time, as she goes through the questions, explaining them and answering any questions or concerns I might have. She is also very patient with the difficult situation due to covid and ratios in nurseries.
Currently, it is very well organised, I have zoom sessions every 2 weekly, sometimes 3 weekly or sometimes a monthly. My tutor is very adaptable with sessions and times and this really helps with the difficulties of running a nursery in the Covid pandemic. Contacted via email and phone if any changes of sessions need to happen.
My senior manager and manager as supportive regarding my level 5 management course. I do sometimes struggle to get out of numbers when I am in ratio in order to have the sessions, however at times they will help with this, covering me if that is what’s needed so I can attend my session.
I have received lots of support from mostly my tutor, not really anyone else within the training provider. However the support I get from my tutor is really helpful. I can contact her through email or phone call. We have regular sessions in which she supports my learning of the course.
My tutor has spent some time going through the work with me, I have looked at different management styles, learnt more regarding HR which has helped me understand some policies, procedures and processes. This helps me in my role as I am able to use this knee knowledge to support the staff more.
Within our work, we sometimes have social events within our team to build more of a closer bond in order to work better as a team. We tend to have Christmas parties and celebrations for other things, e.g completing courses, graduating and big birthdays etc. However we do not have any sports teams or professional networking events.
Yes
Childcare is a very rewarding job, it does come with many challenges, e.g managing time, stressful situations and pressures of OFSTED. However looking after children, developing bonds, supporting their learning and watching them grow into their unique little selfs is a very rewarding job and I do enjoy it.
Most people think childcare is an easy job, however they are wrong. There is a lot of pressures, time restrictions, stress and challenging times within this job. If you want one of the most rewarding jobs then it is the job for you, but be aware that it will be challenging at times.
