My role is as a community support worker. I care for clients in their own homes. In assist with personal care, administering medication and meal prep. The role of a support worker is important, we aim to give our clients support in being more independent enabling them to stay in their own homes.
I am new to care so have learnt many new skills and have utilised skills from my previous career. I have learnt moving and handling techniques, medication administering which includes PEG training. I've used my people skills in getting to know the clients and working with my colleagues and am learning something new most days.
I am finding the programme very Interesting, it is helping me to develop myself in order to further my career. I am learning skills to help me in my role as a community support worker but also in my everyday life. I know that attending the program will help me to be a better carer.
The programme seems to be well organised with clearly set out assignments set for us, interactive zoom meetings and useful resources to enable us to complete our off the job training and a good compliment of staff to assist us on our journey. The staff seem approachable and knowledgeable, with an assortment of ways to keep in contact with the .
I am new to the programme but so far my employer seems to be supporting me in my journey, allowing me to have off job time to complete my zoom calls and to work on my assignments. I feel this will continue throughout my course as long as I keep communicating my needs to them
