The course was very thorough, unfortunately it was not quite organised enough. Lifetime Training didn't provide adequate training which made my course overrun by over a year. I'm grateful for having completed my course but would've preferred more organisation and 1 on 1 training in the kitchen
I learnt a lot of theory about cooking which I enjoyed, but would have enjoyed more practical coursework. I improved on certain skills in the kitchen which I am still improving to this day.
I enjoyed meeting new people who were also on my course. I also enjoyed learning about the theory behind cooking.
Unfortunately when I began the course Lifetime had issues with my mentors. I didn't receive proper training and once I had a mentor it was near the end of my course which made doing coursework very stressful and put a lot of pressure on me to complete it fast.
Personally I don't feel as if I received a lot of support. At the time my manager was very overwhelming and didn't seem to care I had coursework to complete. Fullers' training days were great and I enjoyed them, but I feel the course lacked support.
I didn't receive much support, my mentor was very nice and I could have a laugh with him, but could sometimes come across very stressed which would be projected onto me.
The course qualification has helped me get a wonderful new job which I couldn't have got without it.
I don't remember there being any activities apart from having a tour of the brewery in London and a couple training days. We were meant to visit our supplies to see behind the scenes, but it never happened and I was very disappointed.
Yes
Fullers is a great company which many opportunities for new chefs provided they get on well with their manager and coworkers. Unfortunately my workplace was not so supportive of me which ultimately lead to me leaving the company.
Keep your head down and work as hard as you can. Being a chef is a tough job, but it is one of the most rewarding jobs. You get out what you put into it.
