  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a client service advisor involves day to day servicing of clients, answering questions and queries they have. I am also in contact with insurers on a regular basis, asking them to sign documentation, confirming rates etc. Spreadsheets are a big part of my job, where I will add in values to calculate premiums, make mid terms adjustments to existing assets or adding a new acquisition to the database. I interact with my team on a regular basis to discuss tasks or just catch up! It is a very social job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a number of new skills and developed existing skills whilst being on the scheme. Time management and workload management being a key skill as I have deadlines to meet for work as well as having to balance work and studying so I do not fall behind with my professional qualifications. Being able to speak out is another important skill I have learnt. Talking to my line manager about my workload and asking for help is a important skill.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my program. My team are great and I felt part of the team really early on! We speak on a regular basis, both about work and non-work things. As well as this, my coach from the training provider has also made me feel at ease about the professional qualification side of things! Despite not knowing what to expect going into the program and starting entirely from home, it has exceed any expectation I had! The company culture is brilliant in he way that it is all about the people, we have regular catch ups with our smaller teams and constant contact. Once a month we have team meeting and this is not just about financials and values but about individuals in the team: birthdays etc.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The beginning of my program was very well structured. We has a number of days where we had training sessions with various people. We also have monthly catch up with the apprentices and talent acquisition colleagues who overlooked our on boarding process. In addition, we have monthly catch ups with our coach from the training partner. For each of our exams we have had a revision session with an external trainer which I have found very beneficial however it was difficult to get a response from the trainer via email prior and post the training sessions in regards to revision materials that were promised to us - we would get no response or they would be sent after we had sat our exams which were too late

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my line manager where it is required. He is always willing to help me where I need it! The HR team are also supportive, I had a few issues with my CII membership before I had even started and they sorted this really quickly! My mentor also supportive and always offers to answer any questions I have in and outside of our meetings - however responses can sometimes be slow. If I need support I can ask my team with ease who will take time to go through bits and pieces. The general attitude towards supporting me is positive all over! Every time i speak to my team they always always offer to help me if I need it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My mentor has been very supportive since the beginning. Although responses to emails can be a bit slow sometimes, I always receive in depth responses and an offer for more detail if I need it. A mailbox was set up for us to ask questions about content which is separate from our coaches, I sent an email to this mailbox with a question but never got a response. In my coach meetings my coach is always willing to clarify any questions I have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has absolutely helped me perform better in my role. Without studying I would just be processing but studying the subject has helped me understand the processes and procedures and why we are doing it. Not everything I study applies to my job role but the majority of the principles can be linked to my role, such as the main insurance principles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have worked from home since starting my apprenticeship so I haven't been involved in extra curricular activities but have managed to go to the pub with my team a couple of times. Hopefully in the summer my team and I will be able to book some social events!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company culture is all about people and Aon United! The job is really social and I don't it difficult to ask for help when I need it! The on boarding process was really smooth and it was updated regularly! It is important to get the work done however Aon believes that the social aspect is also as important especially whilst working at home.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Do your research about the company. You don' need to prepare massively for the assessment day but just make sure you are at the top of your game as you are essentially competing against the other people attending. In the interviews make sure you have some substantial experience to link a lot of the questions back to - mine was the tutoring job I had previously. I would have liked to be told more about my job role and what team I was going to be put in.
