Governance and secretariat roles on a variety of clients (pension schemes). This could be minute taking, logging training of Trustees, creating meeting packs and papers etc. I am also involved in some project management work for a very large client of ours, this involves managing project plans and budgets and liaising with other firms.
I have developed a plethora of skills in my time so far at Aon. I'd say an important one for me is presentation skills and this has been helped significantly by increasing responsibility in client calls and meetings as well as the apprenticeship programme's specific volunteering project which required a team of us to put together and present a large presentation of our work over the project to a large number of people including some very senior colleagues.
I am very happy with my role and the programme in general, I feel there isn't any more Aon and my colleagues could have done to make me feel welcome and my day to day job is fairly varied and interesting to me so I'm happy in my job and role and can see myself staying for the foreseeable.
It's well structured and easy to follow, the credit for this would be to the training provider who let's us know exactly what we need to do to pass and logs all our work towards passing online, there is even a % complete of apprenticeship screen that we can access. I have always known what I need to do to progress e.g. which exams I need to pass or parts of my portfolio of evidence to complete my a specific date.
I have always known who to contact for support be that technical or personal but there isn't a huge amount of support actively given out it's more if you need it you know where to go. That being said we do have mentoring catch ups with grads/apprentices but these are pretty irregular and often cancelled. There was definitely more support at the start of the apprenticeship though which I was grateful for, just regular catch ups with your 'buddy' and that sort of thing.
Not that much to be honest. We have one training session per exam to help us with the knowledge and identify areas we need to more revision into. These are very useful. But it is only one per exam and the rest is expected to be down to you. At catch ups with our provider we are asked how revision is going but that's about it.
The PMI exams I take are completely relevant to my day to day work and therefore help me to perform better in my role, without them I wouldn't know a lot of what I do so I feel they're vital to the apprenticeship. They have increased my knowledge of pensions as a whole exponentially.
Hard now due to the current circumstances but yes Aon is very good at this sort of thing, we used to regularly play 5 a side football after work and there are always social events on e.g. meals and trips to the pub, these are great! There are some online ones which I appreciate the company putting on but these as you can imagine are no where near as fun or engaging as the in person ones we used to have.
Yes
My experience has been fantastic so far, they are a market leader so I know my career will progress here well and they do seem to care about progressing your career fairly quickly looking at the positions that ex apprentices are in now. I also get along very well with my colleagues and have made some good friends.
The application process was very smooth and took a while at first but once I did the final interview I heard back the next day which was great. I'd encourage anyone to apply, the ethos of the company is great and everyone is lovely. I'd say go for it.
